Hammers Humiliate Holders 30/11/2010
Match Report – West Ham United 4-0 Manchester United Competition: Carling League Cup Kick-Off & Date: 7:45pm, Tuesday 30th November Venue: Upton Park, London (Away) Attendance: 33,551 Manchester United were left red-faced as they travelled back to Old Trafford in horrible conditions with an equally bad result. West Ham United managed to dump the holders out of the Carling Cup thanks to a four goals from Jonathan Spector and Carlton Cole – both scoring a double – provided by an on-fire Victor Obinna. Sir Alex Ferguson completely changed his starting line-up, making 10 changes. Anderson was the only player who was part of United’s 7-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at the weekend. Tomasz Kuszczak was between the sticks, while Ryan Giggs returned to captain the side. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling replaced Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the centre-back positions. Meanwhile, Gabriel Obertan, Bébé and Chicharito were all given the chance to shine in attack. Darren Fletcher was the other notable inclusion, as he recovered from an ankle injury he suffered over 10 days ago. West Ham got off to a good start, in charge of the lions share of possession in the opening stages. Gabby Obertan then hit the post after he forced Robert Green to make a close save. Victor Obinna looked to have put The Hammers in front on 17 minutes, but the ball deflected off team-mate Jonathan Spector, who was well offside. However, 5 minutes later, Spector made-up for disallowing the earlier goal, as he headed Obinna’s cross past Tomasz Kuszczak. Spector made 8 appearances for Manchester United as a teenager, before he had moved on to West Ham… After a short spell from The Reds, West Ham broke their resistance and kept possession. Sir Alex’s plan wasn’t going very well, and referee Mark Clattenburg wasn’t helping as Fabio Da Silva and Chicharito were chopped-down illegally but their tacklers avoided punishment. Then, in the 37th minute Obinna and Spector combined again. Obinna caused havoc in the United box, and again bad defending lead to Spector picking-up the ball and launching it past Kuszczak. As half time came and went, the under-preforming Bébé was replaced by Kiko Macheda… Sir Alex certainly wasn’t happy going into the second half, but there was no sign that his half-time team talk had worked as United looked as lacklustre as ever. Macheda’s introduction didn’t look as if it made much of a difference, but it was the defence that had the real problems. Again Obinna crossed the ball into the box, and this time it was Carlton Cole who managed to get himself in space and fire into the goal for West Ham’s third goal. A nightmare that Fergie’s boys couldn’t wake-up from. Fabio was replaced by his twin brother Rafael, while Wes Brown entered the fray in place of Jonny Evans. It might only be the Carling Cup, but United were well and truly being humiliated. It didn’t matter what side we had out, it was still an awful performance… in every department. Sir Alex said before the game he was looking for a hat-trick of League Cups in a row, but West Ham put a total end to any thoughts of a comeback as Obinna – yet again – was allowed to feed the ball into the box, only for Cole to bag his second of the net. Manchester United were embarrassed by Avram Grant’s side. It might have been no.1 against no.20, but it looked as if it was the other way around on Wednesday night, as The Reds fell to pieces. Sir Alex’s men are now out of the Carling Cup – halting us on the road to our third sucessive League Cup title. The Reds were unbeaten in their last 29 games heading into the snowy show-down at Upton Park, but that was completely wiped-out by a rampant West Ham. Well done to The Hammers – deserved the result, but there will be uproar in the United camp for days to come. United Team: Tomasz Kuszczak, Chris Smalling, Fabio Da Silva (Rafael Da Silva ’65), John O’Shea, Jonny Evans, (Wes Brown ’72), Anderson, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, Javier Hernandez, Gabriel Obertan, Bébé (Federico Macheda ’46). Evans have played well when we needed him. Mark Tue, 30 Nov 2010 9:53:27 pm Embarrassing performance, utter disgrace, utd need a clear out, oshea, Evans, mechada, fabio. pjch Tue, 30 Nov 2010 9:56:53 pm Unbelievable. Shocking Crap Inept You name it it describes a poor display from probably the worst United side for ages. Sorry SAF if you think many of this side are the future I think you are wrong. Bebe bought for millions played like he wouldn’t even be picked up on a free. Oberton crap. Macheda early promise from the reserves a couple of seasons ago going backwards. Giggs sorry boss but now too old and needs to retire. Evans outmuscled and off the pace. Too many not fit for the shirt GAZZARO Tue, 30 Nov 2010 10:00:56 pm It’s not our first team, of course, but being humiliated by the bottom team like Westham, it’s show us that our squad hasn’t got quality in depth and some players should be eliminated. Tue, 30 Nov 2010 10:01:39 pm We’ve played Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, you name it in recent years – but I’ve never seen a worse performance than that in ages. O J Tue, 30 Nov 2010 10:04:05 pm Evans is a taboo 2united we cant keep on nursing inexperience like him &oshea.FERGIE; STOP GAMBLING Olujacobs(O J) Tue, 30 Nov 2010 10:17:53 pm I dont blame rooney 4optin out in the first place.we dont need outmuscled players, utd is a world class club.evict al dis inxprience player we accepted defeat but not molestment.SAF WE NEED NEW SIGNIN Sultans Wed, 01 Dec 2010 12:09:26 am I agree with rawreds evans is shit he is not fit enough to wear the red jersey Iss Wed, 01 Dec 2010 12:30:15 am Bunch of complainers. It’s a bad night. Yes Evans was horrible today but most of us have amnesia. If wesham can score 4. We can too. So let’s be calm n move on it’s not da end of the world. Come on utd. For better or for worse I believe in fergie Borba Wed, 01 Dec 2010 2:00:33 am Its the carling cup Sir Alex dosen’t give a shit about that cup final. I rather have United lose in the carling cup final than league games and champion league games. I even know that Sir Alex was not going to a strong side in this tourney. The only way we would see a strong squad is if we played the final or Mancity,Chelski,Loserpool, assenal Those are the only way a strong side would have had a showing in this carling cup tourney. Sgtmatz Wed, 01 Dec 2010 2:37:46 am I think they should fire SAF he doesn’t know anything about the game. Except that he is the most successful manager in the game and he also made ManU what they are today. Let’s not forget that everyone was talking shit about legends when they lost in the cup. You are going to tell me that back then you all knew that Paul and the others would be where they are now. So to all of you that are saying that our youngster suck why are you posting here instead of running a team. I think that SAF knows what he is doing. Manchester39 Wed, 01 Dec 2010 6:25:17 am We were going to lose a match someday soon and I’d rather it be this one than against Blackpool ,Arsenal or Chelsea – we were crap but it was the ‘B’ team when all is said and done. stece Wed, 01 Dec 2010 11:57:43 am i was at the ganme last nite 6000 united fans were there rubbish ganme evans not up to it bebe i was hoping he would miss the team bus on the way honme. banmby how did he get a four year contract . flecther is the worse midfielder in the country he never gose forwaad. conme like you see fergie wont play him against blackpool. why did he bring on macheda not carrick or park i want my money back please Mark Wed, 01 Dec 2010 2:53:33 pm How can u say fletch is the worst midfielder in the league he is the reason utd have kept in touch with chelsea in recent seasons, first name on team sheet for me n many would agree. stece Wed, 01 Dec 2010 5:34:23 pm a we scored seven against blacburn on saturday with anderson and carrick going attacking all the time in the all the ganmes season he failed to that woth as soon as flecther conme in last nite our midfield falls part. he is a good player against arseanl chelsea barcalona e bullies them. but against shite teams he is found out. wet until saturday if he plays he will see how many goals me will score if he doesnt and we 4 5 and my piont would be proven SIZ Thu, 02 Dec 2010 12:42:18 pm pjch Comments are closed. |
