Wes Brown Departs United For Sunderland 07/07/2011
Wesley Brown has ended his 15-year long stay at Old Trafford, by penning a 4-year deal at Sunderland for a rumoured £4 Million. The 31-year-old defender leaves Manchester United with 361 games under his belt, which has won the Manchester native 15 competitive medals under Sir Alex Ferguson. The former England International has become less favoured with The Reds, allowing Black Cats manager Steve Bruce to bag a bargain… Brown, at 6ft, follows the likes of Phil Bardsley, Kieran Richardson and Fraizer Campbell to leave The Theatre Of Dreams for Sunderland in recent years. United’s ties with the Black Cats in former Red Devils defender Bruce and Chairperson Niall Quinn has resulted in Sir Alex and CEO David Gill agreeing to a host of sales, which this summer could also see Ireland duo John O’Shea and Darron Gibson saying ‘slán’ to The Champions. Brown and out Wes – who has made 23 apps for England – has played for United his whole career up until now, making his debut against Leeds United in 1998. “It was disappointing not to have played as much as I could over the last couple of seasons so just to know that I’ll be back in, playing, I’m focusing on that really and looking forward to it. Last season, I couldn’t get into the team and that was frustrating but that’s football and you move on…” said Brown. United supporters have paid their tributes to Brown, while Steve Bruce has expressed his delight on signing the two-time Jimmy Murphy Young Player Of The Year. Cheers for your time Wes, and here’s to a new chapter of your career !
