Sir Alex Left Fuming At Officials 29/12/2010
![]() Sir Alex Ferguson had serious complaints with referee Lee Mason and his fellow officials, as they failed to spot three clear infringements in the build-up to Birmingham City’s 89th equaliser – scored by Lee Bowyer, who should have already been sent-off for an earlier challenge on Darron Gibson… Dimitar Berbatov fired United into the lead on 58 minutes, before Lee Bowyer grabbed an 89th minute leveller for Birmingham to deny The Red Devils all three points in the Premier League title race. Bowyer had been yellow carded for a reckless challenge on Darron Gibson in the first half, but he should have been sent-off by referee Lee Mason. In the build-up to Bowyer’s goal, Rio Ferdinand was fouled by Nikola Zigic – who then hand-balled to see Bowyer – in an offside position – go through one-on-one with Edwin Van Der Sar. United were forced to share the spoils at St. Andrews, but Sir Alex, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick all cried foul after the game… “Handball, a foul on the centre-half, he went right through him. If the referee can’t see that, what chance have you got ? – At this level, in a game of that importance, what you hope you’re going to get is a referee that can see that. If he can’t, what chance have you got ? – I’ve got no complaints with my team today, they fought hard, they worked hard and had only two days’ rest.” Ferguson told the media. He added: “The Bowyer tackle in the first half, I thought it was a red card. He’s gone over the top of the ball. Bowyer has been given a yellow card so nothing can be done about it now, but it’s a dangerous tackle.” Rio Ferdinand ranted: “He (Nikola Zigic) even said at the end of the game he handled the ball…” Meanwhile, Michael Carrick also vented his frustration at the referee, but said fans should look at ‘the bigger picture’ – “Late goals are always hard to take but given how it happened we feel hard done by. There was a push in the back and then obviously the handball. But it’s done now, so we have to dust ourselves down and move on. We’re still in a good position when you look at the bigger picture.” United travel to West Brom on New Years day, Saturday, where Sir Alex will be looking for a better performance… from the officials this time ! He saw them alright, but didn’t have the guts to give any of the fouls in the 90th minute with thousands of Brummies behind him G13 Thu, 30 Dec 2010 12:17:01 pm We’re simply robbed off a victory.
