Manchester United look to have beaten neighbours Manchester City to hot property in Italy. Udinese’ 22-year-old winger from Chile, Alexis Sanchez, has agreed terms with The Red Devils, having been a lifelong supporter of the club. According to sources, a fee of approximately £25 Million will be paid this summer…
Officials from Man City met with representatives of Chile International Alexis Sanchez last week at the Eastlands, before the agents moved on to see City’s big brothers at Old Trafford – where they are said to have agreed personal terms between Sanchez and United. Reports in both Italy and England have unanimously named The Reds as Sanchez’ preferred suitor, while his delegates have also chosen United over cross-town-rivals City.
Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on signing Sanchez, as a long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs. He has already found Rafael and Fabio Da Silva as successors for Gary Neville, while the boss, coaching staff and scouts are also seeking potential back-ups for Paul Scholes and Edwin Van Der Sar. Wesley Sneijder seems most suited to fill Scholsey’s boots, while it looks as though Maarten Stekelenburg could wear Van Der Sar’s gloves in the future.
United are ready to dish-out around £25 Million for Sanchez, and – Glazer-willing – could spend upwards of £30 Million on Sneijder, and nearly £20 Million for De Gea. That would bring this summer’s transfer spend to £75 Million – a similar figure to that of the summer of 2007, when the Premier League leaders underwent a rebuilding process. Although a rare occurrence at The Theatre Of Dreams, Sir Alex has spent big in the past, and looks to do so again.
