Off the field, Manchester United remain the largest money-making machine in sport, with hugely positive results announced for the first quarter of the club’s financial year. The Red Devils posted a turnover in the period of £73.8 Million, a healthy 16.6% increase compared to the previous three months ending September. The world’s biggest club reported growth in commercial, media and matchday income, with DHL providing the main commercial money… Despite the income increasing, there has been widespread criticism of the depletion of the club’s cash reserves. Before the summer spending spree of £50 Million plus and millions more in debt repayments, the holdings stood at £152.7 Million, but The Glazer Family have reduced the stash by a whopping £86.7 Million to £65 Million. These reserves are added to on occasion, and may be again soon following the reaction from supporters. But, income keeps Manchester United at the top of the financial game, with revenue up 16.6% (from £63.3 Million to £73.8 Million) compared to the same period last year. DHL agreed a 4-year, £40 Million sponsorship with The Reds for their training kits, providing a large rise in commercial turnover. These sector saw an increased of 22.3%, from £24.2 Million to £29.6 Million, with the help of some 660 Million United fans as well ! ‘The Premier League Champions’ status did it’s part, seeing a 16.5% rise in media proceeds, from £19.4 Million to £22.6 Million. Matchday income also increased, by 9.6% from £19.7 Million to £21.6 Million, thanks to hospitality packages being sold-out for the first time since before the economic recession. Profit after operating costs (£54.4 Million) stood at £19.3 Million, a 29.5% rise from £14.9 Million. A pre-tax loss of £6.9 Million was noted. Debt has been reduced significantly, now standing at £433.2 Million. ‘Like’ United Latest On Facebook CommentsArfaan11 16/11/2011 7:34pm
