Creative midfielder Javier Pastore is close on a move to Manchester United, reports have stated. The 21-year-old Argentina International has been described as an ‘exceedingly promising’ attacking mid. Palermo have placed a price of €40 (£34) Million on his head – but The Red Devils are said to be prepared to pay over-the-odds for Pastore…

Media outlets in Javier Pastore’s native Argentina have reported that the highly-rated youngster is close to agreeing a 4-year contract with United. The midfielder is seen as a long-term replacement for veteran Paul Scholes, but his playing style has been more readily compared to Ryan Giggs. Pastore has scored 11 goals in 32 games for Palermo this season, taking the Serie A by surprise after moving to Italy from Cordoba in 2009.

Pastore has made 7 appearances for Argentina, also appearing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Barcelona and Real Madrid were said to be interested in the midfielder in January, and so Palermo quickly tied him up with a 5-year deal. Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini also admitted interest in Pastore at the beginning of the year. However, all three clubs were put-off by Pastore’s price-tag (yes, City were too !).

This has opened-up negations with United, with agent Marcello Simonean apparently flying to Manchester to discuss a possible agreement between the clubs. Despite Barca talisman Lionel Messi begging boss Pep Guardiola to sign Pastore, the Argentinian has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford – press in his home country have suggested…

Not so sure about this
1.Its Probably Nonsense
2.In My Opinion Hes overated
3.Im not sure SAF would spend 34 million on a player that could easily flop in england

Having said that we need creativity in or midfield and fast

Firstly, let’s see if the Glazers pump in the money to buy these papers!!! I don’t believe it’s going to happen as long as the Glazers are the owners

40 million sounds like fergie has watched him for long time . Rooney he paid 30 million for him and they watched him for a long time ; Barca want him but i see some were he wants first team football and fergie has told him he will get it this is my team for next season
David dae gae
Rafael vidc RIO EVRA
NANI FLECTHER PASTORE SANCHEZ
YOUNG
ROONEY
I HOPE THE GLAZERS WILL GIVE THE MONEY TO SPEND BIG

Dylan

Tue, 08 Mar 2011 7:36:50 pm

Im sorry sean but sanchez and young is NOT happening so forget about it
IF we sign pastore i think only one other player will be signed

Sean 123 Mufc

Tue, 08 Mar 2011 7:40:21 pm

but Young could play a free role play were he wants that is what he does with villa ; ya right it might not happen but i think fergie knows were a good team and he did say we will not spend big a few Weak ago so we will wait and see Dylan

Dylan

Tue, 08 Mar 2011 7:46:26 pm

well not really he firstly said he wasnt buying in january then said before the liverpool game(f.a cup)
that he wanted one player so if that one player is still wanted which he OBVIOUSLY is then SAF will most likely make that player his number 1 priority then after that will follow up on the others sanchez for me is a must young is almost 27 and is overated so sanchez is the better option and a creative midfield player is key for us Shinji Kagawa would be nice but IF this pastore deal turns out to be true then thats just as good if not better and then theres that small issue of getting a goalkeeper for me the only keeper we need is Manuel Neuer

Sean 123 Mufc

Tue, 08 Mar 2011 7:52:03 pm

you have a point about young i think fergie should of went for him years ago why go for him now but i think he is a good player still a bit more to prove . i think Sanchez is over hyped all right but he is the closed player to Ronnie when he was here ; and i think fergie could make Sanchez in to the best player in the World ; i do think we will buy 3 players if not 4 and they are in my list wist

Pastore and Neuer would do us nicely this summer, and maybe Gourcuff if we have a little more money to spend

You say young is getting old but look at giggs ok he’s not as quick as he use to be but he’s got that old head on his shoulders and if you say we should have got young a few years ago well maybe saf should have tried a bit harder to get ramsey from under arsenals noses
I honestly think kaka is a good option Madrid don’t need or want him so would get him cheap and he is still a class player !

I’ll believe this when I see him at Old Trafford and signing the contract…Barca are said to be holding an option to sign him in the summer although they are alleged to have stalled on the price.

This is welcome news if it’s true, from what iv seen this lad is a touch of class. Kagawa also is the type of player that wud suit us. It’s true south Americans don’t always cut it in England (veron & forlan & kleberson) I just want to see players signed that r ready for first team football and not just potential. I’d have Sanchez and young aswel. All excellent targets

Agree with Darren who mentions Mario Gotze. I’ve made a point to watch the kid whenever Dortmund are on TV and he looks very good… Offers the creativity we lack from midfield.

I’d be happy if we snap him up in the summer ahead of some of the other names that are frequently mentioned.

We will end up like arsenal if we Dnt buy big this summer. Pastore? I Dnt think so, saf wants player who has bit of English. Biggest mistakes was to let tevez go. Carrick? Big respect for his first 2 season n he just signed? Omg I’m starting to lose faith in saf nw.

These reports mmake me laugh!!!
Why would we spend circa £40m on 1 player and then sign Fletcher and Carrick on new deals!!?? Furthermore, Fergie said he won’t be signing any more Argie’s after Tevez!!
Fergie had chance in the summer and Jan and signed no-one!!! Let’s face it lads we’re skint and Ferige’s go no money unless he sells!!

I’m just using Vicky as an example, but people who come on here with ‘Their team for next season’, do you really think we’d get Neuer, Sneijder, Schweinsteiger, Sanchez AND Benzema? I mean, really.. and people who are saying we should sell Rooney are blind, what we need to do is buy quality players Rooney can work with, not these dead weights in midfield (Carrick, Gibson etc).

Can’t believe some of you are saying Evra has had a good season as he is not far behind Carrick and Rooney for me as seasons most inconsistent . Think all 3 will improve though next year and even VDS has made errors unlike him this year.

Criticism of SAF is amazing though and can only imagine this is younger supporters who have forgotten the years in-between him and Sir Matt , Liverpool have tried several men as have Chelsea and none have shown the strength of the great SAF

Would like to hear a little bit more in the way of support for him- you don’t know how big the chair is till it’s empty sometimes

If he moved to barca in a few years the world would be ravin about how gd he is. We should get him, he fills the creativity that man u r missin. 40 mil is a bit steep, but the price would drop like it did when Chelsea signed luiz in jan.

Btw wwe will spend this summer, I think saf is startin to realise we are very weak in midfield, as shown by finance numerous performances this season.

Real never played United in the Champions League and neither did Brazil and England in the World Cup. Both United and England didn’t even reach the semis of either competition so I can only assume you are talking about some game you played on the PS3 or Xbox

Migsy

Thu, 10 Mar 2011 1:47:21 pm

I’m manc born and bred and named after willy morgan. I have watched united since I was a nipper. I have seen many midfields at united through the seventies, eighties and nineties but this must rank alongside the most weak and uncreative I have ever seen. I’ll support the reds through thick and thin but I’m entitled to voice my opinion. Do you think any team in the premier league lines up in the tunnel fearing fletcher and carrick?
It’s a joke that they have both earned new contracts when they have had awful seasons. We need a real midfield general for the soft arses to look up to. We dont have a leader at all. As much as I love vidic he doesn’t shout at the team enough to inspire them. If we can’t afford to buy anyone id try Rooney in centre midfield. He would shake up the opposition and as he’s not scoring many goals the pressure would be off. He’d get from box to box and his energy would inspire those around him. Rooney is not an out and out striker and never will be IMO. He loves being involved in everything and I think it would reinvigorate him. I really think it would be worth a try if we can’t buy a real tough tackling, good passer of the ball. What I’d give to gave Bryan robson now. I’m afraid scholes should retire. His main asset was his passing and all he does lately is give easy balls away. His heart doesn’t seem to be in for it anymore. Let him go now before his reputation gets damaged. I think giggs has one more season left in him. These guys are ready for coaching rolls to keep the united legacy going and to teach the kids respect for the club. One thing I don’t understand is fergusons insistence with this weak midfield. He has nothing to answer to in my eyes, he is the master, but sometimes I think he gets the blinkers on and just gets blinded by his own stubbornness. Ok if we can’t buy anyone, but why not try pogba or all the other fantastic midfielders I hear are coming through? They really can’t be any worse than the soft centre we have now, they need a huge kick up the arse. Get the kids in I say, that’s what we are famous for so give pogba, tunnicliffe or the other kids a go, I know the fans would be excited by that and we wouldn’t get on their backs as much as this sorry lot. Come on reds, just get through the next couple of weeks and the title should be ours. No chance in the CL though as barca will laugh past our weak centre and we are finding it tough enough against marseille !!!
United till I die. Rant over.

Thu, 10 Mar 2011 1:50:44 pm

Let say if saf does decide to retire and mourinho is appointed, does anyone think that he can do well in united? From my point, i dun think so with the budget at united. Mourinho has been lucky and has been at clubs which has too much money to spend (chelsea, inter and madrid). I think redknapp or moyes could be ideal replacement…

All this transfer talk is nonsense. Nobody has a clue who we might or might not sign. Pastore, Sanchez, Schneider etc, are all paper talk and i wouldnt be surprised if none of those came. I think the money will be there in the summer, but i think fergie is wary of splashing big cash on someone who plays well in a slower league like serie A, remember Veron? Imo he likes someone like berbatov who he has seen week in week out performing in the premier league, even though he hasnt quite lived up to his rep, i still think he’s been our best forward this season. Not saying a lot i know. The thing is we need players RIGHT NOW, THIS WEEKEND. I really would throw a curveball and play pogba, it won’t happen though. I fear he will play Gibson and mike duxbury with arthur Graham replacing nani with a view to saving our “best” midfield for marseille next week. If fergie pulls this off and wins the league this season it will rank alongside the treble as an achievement, but it will only paper over the huge crevice that is the poorest midfield at united in living memory and might eventually go against us by fergie thinking we dont need investing in the summer. It might be a blessing in disguise if we win nothing this year, although it hurts like hell to admit it.

As much as I dislike the glazers, people have a short memory. Before them we had Edwards and everyone used to moan about him not stumping up wages and such. Then we became a plc and everyone was worried we’d have to answer to shareholders. Then the glazers came in and it’s the same as always. They have give us money before and I’m sure it’s there now. I’m pretty sure ferguson would have walked away if he thought he wasnt being backed, after all he nearly walked a few years ago when he had the contract dispute. I mostly agree when he says there is no value in the Market. I scratch my head when trying to think of a great midfielder who is available for any amount of money. While I like schneider he is hardly going to motivate and be a keane like figure in the middle. I just think it’s the way the games gone over the last few years. The vieras and keanes are being fazed out the game with the emphasis on fair play and people scared of going in hard. Now it’s all snidey shirt pulling and cowardly hair pulling like that Suarez shithouse. He wouldn’t last 5 minutes with robbo, Moses and whiteside. As much as I hate carragher he showed heart and summed up the fight in Liverpool and utter weakness in the heart of our midfield. It took a little Brazilian right back who has only been at old traff for a short time to put the foot in and helped the team save a little face. I know he didn’t make the grade at united but Robbie savage is the type of player we need, albeit a class higher up, but that’s what I want. A bit of bottle and a fighter, there just isn’t a fighter for the team. Rooneys fight seems a little selfish for me, he is right about the side, but that also includes him, he’s very average this season and we can hardly rely on a scouser to be the heart of our side. So with all this transfer talk about these unproven foreigners, yes I’d like some creativity, but we need steel first, preferably British and straight from the dirtiest Sunday league team around, then the flair players can play, it won’t work just buying another fancy arse who goes missing when the carraghers and gerrards put the foot in.

Yes Chris he did, but how many ronaldos are there??
And when he was at his peak out midfield was playing well. Imagine we had robbo or keano now. Our defence is pretty good and smalling is going to be world class. Our attack is going to awesome too over the next few years with pea soup being one of the greats I hope. We are not far from being great all around. The midfield is stifling our attack and not protecting our defence. I think it could all click into place with one very inspired signing. The midfield can take a fletcher or a carrick, they are both perfectly good midfielders but as a pair they are hopeless. They seem to look to others for inspiration when everyone else is looking at them. I really do think a tough midfielder with a great passing ability would compliment either carrick, fletcher or the yet to be proven Anderson. None of those are tough players and I’d fancy my chances in a 50/50 with any of them and I’ve not kicked a ball for 10 years!! Give pogba a go, he’s a big lad and I hear very good things. I’m confused though why he wasn’t given a chance even against Crawley, so I doubt he’s gonna be brought in against the bigger teams. Lose to arsenal tomorrow and I fear our season will collapse even further.

Look ferg is gona sign Jack Rodwell He’s very composed, strong,a good passer wiv both feet and a good athlete…Pastori I have watched play several times and he will bring that extra class any dynamism to our play which we have lacked so many times this season..I say we get Rodwell ,pastori and bale..I would rather we spent big on bale than on pastori though and maybe giggs could talk him into being his successor at united..we also need manuel nuier in goal..if possible another solid canter back to give extra depth and strength..my team for next season.. Nuier, rafael, rio, vidic, evra, nani.rodwell, bale, pastori,Wazza & Chicho..when we play 4 4 2 if its 5 in the middle then drop hernandez 4 Fletch… OUT WITH THE YANKS

@Migsy: U̶̲̥̅̊’r a true fan lots of luv from Nigeria,  hope to be like U̶̲̥̅̊ one on day… Started watching nd supporting MAN UTD sinz 1999 nd as it’s been said ’ll agree dis is the worst UNITED midfield ’v ever seen… Carrick, (respect to his 1st 2 season) sulks, plays like a woman nd lack ambition. Fletcher, only God knws whts wrong wif him dis season, playing just like carrick.. ’m sorry, but players like Carrick, Brown, Gibson(on loan), obetan(on loan) needs to go.. Bring back tom cleverly may be wellback( shld still go on loan though) to beef up d team… No dubt we need a Creative player but everybody hasn’t mention somebody, nd d@ person is LUKA MODRICH… Isn’t he a fantastick player??? He’s been in Englan for quite some years nw, he know everything abt d premier league… Fergie plz save our soul!!! We want a better uNITED nxt season win or no win dis season… A suggestion to d house,  think we should make Fergie nd every important people up there to read our comments, der they wld knw wht we want… @Migsy U̶̲̥̅̊ can contact me(peterkol[email protected]) thnks!!!!
