Michael Owen Extends Old Trafford Stay 01/06/2011
After months of ‘will he or won’t he ?’, Michael Owen has signed a new 1-year contract with Manchester United. The 31-year-old former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle United striker’s previous 2-year deal comes to an end this summer, and Owen accepted the club’s offer of a season-long contract extension. The ex-England man picked-up his first-ever Barclays Premier League winners medal with The Red Devils recently, and is keen on more success… Since joining on a free transfer from Newcastle in the summer of 2009, Owen has scored 14 goals in less than 50 games. He has won three titles in his short time at Old Trafford, with the UEFA Champions League recently alluding his and United’s grasp. Having left The Scousers in 2004 for Spain, Owen quickly became a big-earner, before moving back to the Premier League in 2005 and onwards to The Reds four years later. Michael Owen with the Premier League trophy Owen spoke to the club’s media on Wednesday, saying: “I’m delighted to have agreed a one-year extension to my contract. To play alongside so many great players, under an exceptional manager, and in front of so many incredibly passionate supporters, is a real inspiration. I can’t wait for next season to start.” Sir Alex Ferguson was equally chuffed with the agreement, adding: “Michael has proved to be a top footballer. It’s unfortunate Michael didn’t get more opportunities, but the form of Chicharito put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable. I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season.” Meanwhile – with the Premier League Summer Transfer Window now open – Manchester United officials are also hopeful on signing Ji-Sung Park on a longer deal over the summer, while Bulgarian ace Dimitar Berbatov has pledged he will stay at The Theatre Of Dreams, as clubs are chasing their services… Follow United Latest On Twitter ! I do hope Owen does get a few more chances to prove how good he is, hes a top player and goal scorer and I’m glad he’s signed for another year! It’s 1 less department we need to worry about. As fergies always said we need 4 top strikers to be challenging on all fronts, and I do believe we have that, for atleast another year. Now sign up sneijder/modric, pastore or Sanchez, 2 out of these 4 would make a Hugh difference to the team! Redmick442 02/06/2011 7:46pm

Love it when he pulls on a red shirt as he’s still an eye for goal and has the added bonus of annoying the dippers. Need at least 2 world class centre midfielders, a defender and a goalkeeper to ensure we progress as all our rivals will be strengthening especially Chelsea and City and we cannot afford to be left behind Malik 02/06/2011 8:10pm
I heared united made 35m pound bid for patore any confirmaton? Steve 02/06/2011 8:12pm
Owen can still cut it at the top level, he has a back forbeing in the right place at the right time and his finishing is as sharp as it ever has been, I agree, we need a midfield that can compete with europe’s elite especially wiv scholsey retiring, Steve 02/06/2011 8:15pm
Owen = legend Kas 02/06/2011 8:17pm
I heard city made £33m bid for pastore but was rejected cos his clubs asking price is £44m. Maybe cos they know city got the money to spend on 1 player. However utd could snatch him for around the £30m mark if city lose interest i think. Sean 123 Mufc 02/06/2011 8:49pm

Get ganso and neymar from santos. Then one of Schneider, pastore or modric or di rossi. Midfield is seriously lacking. BEL19VE 02/06/2011 11:10pm
