Maarten Stekelenburg to Manchester United ?
It has been confirmed that Maarten Stekelenburg is Manchester United’s prime transfer target this season. Head coach René Meulensteen has revealed that 28-year-old Stekelenburg is favourite to replace Edwin Van Der Sar at the end of the season, while Ajax are believed to be resigned to selling the goalkeeper…

Stekelenburg has already replaced Van Der Sar in the Holland International set-up, and is set to follow in his footsteps at Old Trafford. Van Der Sar announced his plans to retire at the end of the season earlier this week, with many goalies linked with a switch to The Red Devils. However Stekelenburg, 28, has fastly become the favourite to replace United’s outgoing 40-year-old flying Dutchman.

René Meulensteen, first-team coach, told the press on Friday night: “Stekelenburg is indeed the goalkeeper who is at the top of our wanted list. We have naturally been talking a lot among ourselves about who should replace Van Der Sar. Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about Stekelenburg with Edwin and that does not seem strange to me at all.”

Fergie admitted he made a mistake in signing Van Der Sar in 2005, and not 1999 – when Peter Schmeichel left the club. He said: “I made a mistake. I should have bought Van Der Sar then (1999), but I didn’t do it. We will be better prepared this time. We have learned from that.”

Any move for 6ft 6in Stekelenburg is likely to take place over the summer, with the resulting consequence of Tomasz Kuszczak leaving the club. While Ben Amos and Anders Lindegaard will fight for a spot in the squad, with the latter set to make his debut against Southampton on Saturday evening in The FA Cup fourth round…

Never the big Dutch man at Ajax ???Pedigree class, and on the cusp of greatness.
Not that I was banging on about this, during the “World cup” on the Republika of Mancunia.
He is made for United suits this great club perfectly in my opinion.
Watch the poll rise now on great forums like United Rant!.This morning behind 3 no hopers! lol. Mind a bit of canvassing around the “tinter net ” helps.
If only some people would listen to the “Sweaty Socks” we know our fitbae players as we say in Glesga.lol

I thought not. Its all subjective and thats part of a forum.I think and stand bye my Choice! He is made for United, it will HAPPEN.I make things happen. lol
.
Since the retirement of Edwin van der Sar from the national team, Stekelenburg has been the first-choice . Stekelenburg was included in the preliminary squad for the 2010 FIFWorld Cup in South Africa. On 27 May 2010, van Marwijk announced that he would be part of the final squad of 23 participating in the competition. Stekelenburg helped the Netherlands reach the final of the competition against Spain by making “big” saves throughout the tournament, memorably the save from Ricardo Kaka in Hollands 2-1 victory against Brazil in the quarterfinals. “Only conceding 5 GOALS in the whole tournament”(2 of them being a penalty kick). Then despite making a number of notable saves in the final, he ended up on the losing side, conceding the “only” goal of the game to Andrés Iniesta in the 116th minute of the match.

On the cusp of greatness at Manchester United.

Wait and see.

Alex Chamberlain is only young but he has potential’ said Ferguson in a recent interview.

Tough act to follow: Fergie rates the job Adkins has done at St Mary’s
‘Southampton have done very well bringing young players through over the years.
‘He is another one along with Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott. Before that they had the Wallace brothers and Alan Shearer.

Does tat mean SAF has the intentions 2 bid 4 tis kid ?????????

There’s a very good article
On skysports about replacing Van Der Sar and how hards its going to be. One of their better points is that De Gea is far too young to come and command a back 4 in the premier league just yet. I dont know much about this Sketelenberg but we need an experienced keeper, we tried Ben Foster amd at times he looked like he just wanted to hide behind the post.

I’ve rated the Udinese keeper Samir Handanovich since the world cup, Slovenian stopper.
Just thought he stood out as the best keeper in the tournament, just checked on web, heavily linked to Bayern Munich at te moment. Anyone else rate him?
