![]() Wayne Rooney is set to be out of action for two to four weeks, after the England International ace sprained his ankle in the dying seconds of United’s hurtful defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. Rooney twisted his right foot after challenging for the ball, and now could miss up to seven games... Two minutes of stoppage time were added, as Bayern keeper Hans-Jörg Butt took his kick-out. Rooney challenged for the ball, but failed, instead he twisted his right foot (as seen in the above picture). Bayern played on into the box, and after some diabolical defending, Ivica Olic latched on to a loose ball and fired the Bavarians into the second leg, leading by a 2-1 scoreline. Roo had put The Reds ahead after just 64 seconds, but the Germans bit back, as Franck Ribery scored a deflected free-kick off Rooney himself. Sir Alex and United fans were still pretty happy with the away goal advantage, but then came the double blow; Bayern scored the winner, as 34-goal Wazza fell to the ground, injured ! Wayne Rooney leaves Germany on crutches, wearing a protective cast on his foot ! Rooney will go for an MRI Scan tomorrow morning, to reveal the full extent of the injury, after the United squad returned from Munich on Wednesday evening. But the early diagnoses are that he has severally sprained his right ankle, and is facing 2 to 4 weeks on the sidelines. In that space he could potentially miss seven games, although he is expected to be back after four. He will, however, miss crunch games against Chelsea, on Saturday, the second leg with Bayern Munich next Wednesday, and the Premier League trips to Blackburn and Manchester City. Roo might only be back in time for the Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg (and that’s if United make it through), or the ace could return for the home game with Tottenham, but may even be doubtful for that. If the injury is very bad he could miss the 2nd Leg in Europe, with either Lyon or Bordeaux. He will most likely return for the two remaining League games with Sunderland and Stoke City. The injury comes as a massive blow to Sir Alex, who has already had a fair share of injuries to deal with this season – such as Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Michael Owen and many more. Roo had sat-out the 4-0 hammering of Bolton over the weekend, to give the goal machine a deserved rest, but now that he is injured again, the gaffer will have to look elsewhere.. In Dimitar Berbatov, Federico Macheda and maybe even Mame Biram Diouf ! CommentsOmar Altaf Wed, 31 Mar 2010 12:33:26 pm Thanks for keeping us updated.
