Sir Alex Ferguson has called on his players to prove their critics wrong, and beat Arsenal at The Emirates and Chelsea at Old Trafford to win a record 19th Barclays Premier League trophy. The gaffer believes the general consensus of Gunners, Blues and neutrals are that The Red Devils will lose – he says we can win… !
Chelsea kept the pressure up on United, as Carlo Ancelotti’s side controversially beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Sandro Ranieri put Spurs ahead, but Frank Lampard was awarded a phantom goal when Heurelho Gomes clearly clawed the ball off the line following his spilled catch. And if that wasn’t enough, Saloman Kalou scored in the dying minutes despite being nearly 2 yards offside. Nothing new, then, eh ?
The result on Saturday means United must win against Arsenal in London on Sunday to keep the 6 point gap at the summit of the Premier League. “The slant I seemed to be getting is that Arsenal and Chelsea are expecting to win these games (against us) and change the top of the league.” the boss told the media. “It is not going to be any easier for Arsenal or Chelsea than it is for us. These are difficult games.”
“But my view is: ‘Why can’t we win these matches ?’ – Surely, given the form we are in, we can win these matches.” Sir Alex added: “Wayne’s form has been fantastic, he and Javier have been a revelation in the last few weeks. It has given us all great hope…”
