Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted as Wayne Rooney got off the mark against West Ham United on Saturday, but said his and the teams good performance was more important. Luis Nani and Dimitar Berbatov sealed the 3-0 win, but the boss admits: it could have been more… Wayne Rooney opened the scoring after Ryan Giggs was fouled inside the box, having been blasted in the media for his 18-hour-plus goal drought for club and country. United could have scored much more in the first half, but left the brace in the bag for the second half. Luis Nani made-up for his penalty miss last weekend at Fulham by scoring one hell of a solo goal – beating six defenders and keeper Rob Green. Nani turned provider with 30 minutes left, as he crossed to Dimitar Berbatov at the back post – who sliced the ball into the net. “It was a very good performance, the possession of the ball was good. Maybe we could have scored more but it’s always the case you get the first goal and it opens the door. We deserved to go in front. It was a good collective performance.” said Sir Alex. “The performance was the thing that stood out,” said the gaffer, as he spoke about Rooney’s game. “He enjoyed his football and he was full of energy.
