The magnificent Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland
It has been confirmed that Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Ji-Sung Park and Nemanja Vidic will all return for Manchester United in Dublin, when Sir Alex’s men take-on an ‘Airtricity League Select XI’. The four stars have been in training a few weeks now, after various World Cup campaigns…

Former Rep. of Ireland International and ex-Cork City boss Damien Richardson takes the reigns of the League of Ireland XI on Wednesday, August 4th. Speaking to Rté Sport, Richardson said: “I have selected a strong squad for the match against Manchester United. There is plenty of talent in the Airtricity League and I faced a difficult decision in reducing the numbers down to 18.”

“August 4 is a big day for Irish football. The opening of the new stadium is hugely important for the development of the game, and I am delighted that the Airtricity League will be central to such an historic occasion.”

With the League entering the mid-way point of the season, the Irish players will have a fitness advantage over returning Reds. Second-placed powerhouse Shamrock Rovers play Juventus in Italy a day after the game in the Aviva Stadium, and so none of their players will feature in the squad of 18.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez is also expected to get a run-out, after being subbed 65 minutes on in Mexico, where United lost 3-2 to Chivas Guadalajara.

:: Tickets for the historic event in the Emerald Isle are in short supply, but are still available on TicketmasterUnited Latest will travel to the new Aviva Stadium, and will have a host of features lined-up on the Blog !
