Talking to
United Latest on Monday, Rio stressed the importance of Wayne Rooney staying at the club. He said:
“It was really important (for Rooney to stay). Wayne is settled at this club, he is a world class player and a big part of the team. In my heart I always knew he would stay, he is a true Red.”Rooney had a blistering season with United last campaign, scoring 34 goals in 44 games. However, he wasn’t included in the shortlist of the prestigious ‘Ballon d’Or’ European footballers award. Ferdinand branded the snub as a ‘joke’.
“I just couldn’t believe it !” he said.
“It’s a joke. He had an amazing season with United.”Speaking on the matter of the under-performance of Rooney and other big players in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, England skipper Rio told us:
