Goalie coach Eric Steele made a trip to the ‘BayArena’ in Leverkusen, Germany on Sunday to watch a Bundesliga clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04. Manuel Neuer conceded two goals for the away side, but United scouts were said to be ‘content’ with the 24-year-old’s performance. He has long been touted as a possible replacement for Edwin Van Der Sar, who is retiring at the season’s end.
Playing in-goal for Bayer Leverkusen was Rene Adler, who is also touted to be on The Red’s ‘hot-list’.
Denmark International Anders Lindegaard arrived from Aalesund, Norway for £3.4 Million earlier this year, but the 26-year-old may not be Van Der Sar’s no.1 successor as United search for more options between the posts. Sir Alex Ferguson and Steele travelled to Spain last September to watch Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea keep goal, and other United scouts have also been on the lookout for promising net minders.
