David De Gea Quintana has completed a £20 Million transfer from Atletico Madrid to Premier League Champions Manchester United, penning a 5-year deal. The 20-year-old Spanish goalkeeper will replace retired Dutch shot-stopper Edwin Van Der Sar, and De Gea has already been tipped to become Spain’s no.1 in years to come. De Gea becomes The Red Devil’s 3rd summer signing, bringing Sir Alex Ferguson’s total bill to nearly £60 Million. The 6ft 4in Spaniard recently assisted his nation’s Under-21 side win the U-21 UEFA European Championships, having won the same competition with Spain U-17’s in 2007, and finishing runner-up in the U-17 FIFA World Cup that year also. Last year, De Gea helped Atletico Madrid overcome Fulham in the Europa League, before beating Inter Milan in the UEFA Super Cup. De Gea has kept 24 clean sheets for Atletico in 84 games played. U-21 Euro 2011 winner, Daivd De Gea De Gea – seen as Europe’s most promising young goalkeeper – agreed personal terms with United this week, and underwent a medical in Manchester on Monday. The initial fee is set around the £18 Million mark, and although ‘undisclosed’, it is reportedly going to rise to £20 Million in bonus instalments. Former Reds goalie Alex Stepney was among the first to hail Sir Alex’s replacement for Van Der Sar in David De Gea. The 13-timed capped Spanish U-21 talent told MUTV: “I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here. When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy. I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability. It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I’m keen to do my best and show what I can do.” Welcome David, and good luck !
