Lionel Messi shines for Barca, in ‘the scandal of the Bernabeu’…
Forget the Old Firm between Glasgow Celtic and Rangers – on the field ‘El Clasico’ is just as bad – if not worse. On Wednesday night, Real Madrid hosted Barcelona in a massive UEFA Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg tie at the Bernabeu. Sir Alex Ferguson, in attendance along with 78,000 others, watched fights, brawls, dives, ect. litter the biggest derby in Spanish football from start to finish, and even after the full-time whistle…
Barca reserve goalkeeper, Jose Manuel Pinto, was shown red by referee Wolfgang Stark when his actions erupted a melee before both sides dispersed down the tunnels at the interval. In the second half, Madrid defender Pepe was astonishingly sent-off, despite winning the ball in a one-footed challenge. The Catalan team had disgracefully surrounded the referee, forcing the German official into sending-off Pepe, gie Barca the upper-hand.
José in trouble
José Mourinho sarcastically applauded the decision, landing him a spot in the stands. But then the football took over, as Lionel Messi scored twice in 11 minutes. Ibrahim Affelay’s cross was met by the little Argentinian forward, who flicked the ball past Iker Casillas and into the back of the net.
Just before the final whistle, Messi fantastically dribbled through 4 Real defenders, managing to get the ball bast Casillas just before he hit the ground to make it two.
Pep Guardiola’s side take a highly-controversial 2-0 advantage into the 2nd Leg at Camp Nou, but there’s little to suggest that the men in white will overturn the deficit. So, can United make it to Wembley for revenge ?…
