![]() Assistant manager Mike Phelan has hailed Sir Alex Ferguson’s latest achievement of becoming the longest serving manager at Old Trafford. Phelan branded the record as ‘incredible’, as he helps the 68-year-old Scot regain the Premier League title… Sir Alex topped Sir Matt Busby’s record of 24 years, 43 days at the helm of the world’s biggest footie club on Sunday, the 19th of December – becoming the longest serving full-time manager in the history of Manchester United, the Premier League and British football. Ferguson remains adamant retirement is the last thing on his mind, and whenever he does retire – whether it be another 24 years – will do so as possibly the greatest sportsperson of all time. “It’s an incredible achievement.” said Phelan. “His secret is his enthusiasm, his attention to detail, his work ethic – that’s something he was born into, which comes from his background and his family. He is youthful, has a young mind, and he’s always willing to learn.” “But he’s always lived knowing that to achieve anything you have to work at it and put the hours in. He’s certainly done that. You see signs of that every day.” said the former United right-back and current assistant manager. Discuss This In Our Forum !
