Alex Ferguson Gracious In Barca Defeat 29/05/2011
Sir Alex applauded Barcelona for their outstanding performance on Saturday night, as The Catalan giants out-passed Manchester United until the end of a nail-biting affair. Pep Guardiola’s men claimed the club’s 4th UEFA Champions League at Wembley Stadium, beating The Red Devils 3-1 in the Final… Pedro Rodriguez opened the scoring for Barcelona midway into the first period, but Wayne Rooney struck a blow before half-time as his top-corner finish brought the sides level. But a dominant Barca side flattened United in the 2nd half, with goals from Lionel Messi and David Villa clinching the Spanish Champions their 2nd European Cup in 3 years against The Reds. Wembley Stadium was temporarily turned into a fiesta on Saturday night… “We were beaten – there is no other way to address the situation – by the best team,” Sir Alex said bluntly after the 3-1 loss. “They are the best team we have ever played, they are at the peak in this cycle of their team.” “I expected us to do better, but at the end of the day we were beaten by the better team. There was good evidence we are a consistently good European team but we were beaten by the best team in Europe and there is no shame in that. Sometimes you come up against a far better team and tonight was one of those nights…” the gaffer added, alluding to the fact that this was his side’s third European Cup finale in just four years. United followers won’t be feeling too dejected though, boasting about the club’s record-breaking feat of 19 Barclays Premier League titles, overtaking arch-rivals Liverpool (18). Sir Alex and the boys will tour Manchester on bank holiday Monday via an open-top bus for a Premier League Victory Parade. The boss still feels his team should have performed better on the night, saying: “We expected to do better, simple as that. We have had a great season in many ways, it is just disappointing that we have been to Wembley Stadium twice (also 0-1 Manchester City) and been beaten. We are just disappointed it has ended on this note.” The Reds returned home to Carrington on Sunday, with the League trophy prominent on the team buses’ window… Follow United Latest On Twitter ! CommentsCarl Sun, 29 May 2011 11:50:18 pm Still fuckin gutted, as simple as that. My heart sunk when i seen Giggs and Carrick up against xavi and iniesta!!!! No legs and heart against pure brilliance! Thats were we lost the game. Well I hope fergie sticks by what hes said and buy some world class midfielders cause if we don’t I fear we will struggle next season, we all know we are lucky to be 19 times winners this season, 4-5 mew faces Is needed. Wesley is a must, de gea is so called a done deal, Sanchez and I’d go for sweinstiger aswel. And if berbas time is up then a striker is needed also, but who!!!!!!! Sean 123 Mufc Mon, 30 May 2011 12:21:59 am any truth in Modric for the mail Hams Mon, 30 May 2011 1:25:34 am i really want modric with us next season Marc Mon, 30 May 2011 2:28:10 am Fellow Man United supporters shouldn’t get too upset over the loss. To me, with such an average Team, Winning the EPL for the 19th time and getting to final of Champions League is already a great achievement. Lets just hope that the 3-1 defeat will spurs Fergie on to buy 3-4 world class players. As seen from the final, the weakest link is at the centre of midfield! Hams Mon, 30 May 2011 6:02:47 am yes marc, we need master mind at midfield either modric or sunrises or may be both. At the end Marteen stakalenberg is the one. Ashley young also coming then we hope again we meet Barcelona…..man. Hams Mon, 30 May 2011 6:04:58 am Actually Sjneider not sunrises…..lol. Quiggs Mon, 30 May 2011 8:55:12 am We’ve been lacking in midfield for a while now. And we need a big holding target man up front to partner rooney. leebo Mon, 30 May 2011 11:05:17 am modric or sneijder. young will sign for us and like the others have said stecklenberg or neur cus he hasn’t signed for Bayern Hams Mon, 30 May 2011 11:56:50 am Ur right it’s time for SAF to spend now 2 UCL final failed Ranks Mon, 30 May 2011 12:09:08 pm Falcao from Porto would be a super signing as he’s been a goal machine this season, but he’s probably gonna be top dollar. I’d try for Sweinstieger, Modric and Hazzard too, and don’t be giving me “But we’ve no money”, that’s nonsense as we’ve 3 new kits out this season after 2 new ones last year, so the club must be raking it in with shirt sales, sponsorships, selling Berbatov, tv revenue and cash from the Champions League run. We shouldn’t be settling for Ashley Youngs, we need better players than that David Mon, 30 May 2011 12:25:11 pm We need a whole new midfield but I’m still proud of shat they did this season imagine what we could do if we had a few more world class players l33bo Mon, 30 May 2011 12:58:18 pm modric or sneijder. young will sign for us and like the others have said stecklenberg or neur cus he hasn’t signed for Bayern Brummie red Mon, 30 May 2011 3:13:55 pm SCHWINSTIEGER !!!! !!!! The white jersey is a jinks for us. Marc Tue, 31 May 2011 2:40:55 am With Hargreaves gone too, no reason for Fregie not to boast up the Centre of the Pitch! Any updates on the transfer? Well, between Sanchez and Ashley Young, I thought Sanchez is more interesting, however its safer with Young. Then, I find him similar to Valencia! Hams Tue, 31 May 2011 5:13:52 am we really need people like roy keane or owen hargreaves along with modric. problem too at left back how easy was that goal by pedro we need some like maicon or abidal.
