The Carling League Cup 4th Round presents itself in the form of Aldershot Town, League Two minnows. United face a trip away to the Aldershot Recreation Ground, which holds just 4,000 seats. Despite their ‘small club’ status, ‘The Shots’ have already knocked-out Rochdale, Carlisle United and West Ham United in the cup !… The Premier League Champions beat Leeds United during last week by 3-0, thanks to goals from Michael Owen on two occasions and a beauty from Ryan Giggs. The resounding victory over our old foes with a mainly second-string side out saw United through to the 4th Round of the Carling Cup. Aldershot Town made it through to the same round after beating Rochdale 2-1 at ‘The Rec’ last week, with scores from Michael Rankine and Danny Hylton. United lifted the competition the season before last, and will be looking to go all the way with the mind-blowing standard of youth football at the club. But Aldershot will be keen to avoid disappointed their own supporters on home soil, after being beaten 3-1 by The Reds back in 1970, when George Best, Brian Kidd and Denis Law showed who was boss in the same competition. The date has been confirmed as Tuesday, October 25th at 7:45pm.
