A look back at February… 02/03/2010
We take a look back at the ups and downs in the month of February. The Reds started out great, stuttered and then reassured toward the end, with Wayne Rooney obviously getting player of the month ! Our Views; Player: Wayne Rooney, he scored 6 goals in 6 matches in February. 5 of these goals were from headers, he secured wins over AC Milan, West Ham and the Carling Cup against Aston Villa ! Match: AC Milan 2-3 United, within just 3 minutes a cock-up by Evra allowed Ronaldinho to put the home side ahead, it looked bleak – but Scholes managed to score and Rooney’s double header made it a memorable night at the San Siro. Despite having late scare when veteran Clarence Seedorf scored in the 86th minute. Goal: Wayne Rooney‘s first goal against AC Milan was most-definitely the best goal in February. He climbed above Bonera to meet Valencia’s superb cross, and curled the ball around Dida with his head to put The Reds ahead ! Moment: When United lifted their second Carling Cup in two seasons, a small step towards the triple… Sir Alex’s 26th major title in 23 years at Old Trafford was won for him not just by Rooney’s header, but by the teams will and determination to come-back from the early goal – a penalty conceded by Vidic in the 4th minute. Michael Owen levelled the scores, and was replaced by Wayne Rooney, who scored the winning goal shortly afterwards ! Talking Point: Probably Luis Nani’s harsh red-card at Villa Park. He jumped into a tackle with Petrov, got the ball but ref. Peter Walton deemed the tackle as a malice one… and we lost the ever-improving Portuguese for the rest of February ! We could talk about Nemanja Vidic’s possible red-card at Wembley, but we won’t ! Improvements Needed: The backline was the major let-down in February, not in every match – but in most. Vidic returned for the latter part, but Ferdinand didn’t and is still out with a back strain. Jonny Evans needs to improve in both his aerial and ground challenges to take over from Rio, while Rafael needs to be more tactically aware if he wants to become United’s first-choice left-back. But at least we don’t have John Terry to deal with… March: This month is tough, with the likes of AC Milan, Liverpool and Fulham – the latter two have already beaten us this season. But The Reds should gain ground on Chelski, who lost 4-2 to Man Shitty recently – and the blues could possibly be knocked-out of the Champions League by Inter ! Comments Comments are closed. |
