25 Years At Old Trafford: Sir Alex Ferguson 06/11/2011
Sunday, 6th November 2011 marks the day 25 years ago that Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed manager of Manchester United. The longest serving Premier League gaffer is now 69 years of age, but his hunger for silverware shows no sign of abating. Since Thursday, 6th November 1986, Fergie has undoubtedly become the greatest sporting icon in history – winning 37 trophies in 25 glorious years (and counting) with The Red Devils. Sir Alex celebrated his anniversary with a 1-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday at Old Trafford, where the stadium’s largest stand – the North Stand – was renamed the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. It was a significant moment, the first time in the 101 year history of The Theatre Of Dreams that a stand was renamed. Chief Executive David Gill presented the boss with an achievement award, before unveiling Fergie’s name on the 26,000-seater North Stand. Over 75,000 fans were present at the game, as they were when Sir Alex claimed many of his 37 titles. The Glasgow-born former forward arrived in Manchester on the back of managing Aberdeen, and also Scotland for a short period, with no-one expecting that he would go on to win 60% of his 1,410 games; winning 837, drawing 326 and losing 247. Fergie’s sides have scored 2,580 goals in that time, conceding a comparably lesser 1,262. Congrats, SAF ! Sir Alex Ferguson: 25 Years | 37 Trophies
