Match Preview: United v Newcastle United 26/11/2011
Match Preview - Manchester United v Newcastle United Competition: Premier League Kick-Off & Date: 3pm, Saturday, 26th November 2011 Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester (Home) Live TV Coverage: None (WatchMUFC) Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire, England) Assistants: D Bond & John Flynn Fourth Official: Chris Foy Form: United are raging with the 2-2 draw with Benfica Lisbon midweek, but they are still on course for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, unlike others. The Red Devils are likely to have a stronger squad to face Newcastle United on Saturday, and will want to maintain their unbeaten run of six games in all competitions. United will be hoping for some favours at the weekend, as they look to close in on top spot... Newcastle United have been in stunning form of late, with only one defeat in 12 Barclays Premier League matches this season. The Toon Army have taken to manager Alan Pardew after the controversial sacking of Chris Hughton midway through last season. Newcastle currently sit in 4th place, and looking to continue their run of form to threaten Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal to 3rd. But, how long will their good spell carry on ? The Injury Front: United have been hit with another couple of injury blows over the last week, with Oliveira Anderson ruled out until February, making the midfield look even more under strength. Tom Cleverley and Michael Owen are long-term injury concerns, but Wayne Rooney should feature against Newcastle at Old Trafford. Thankfully, the likes of Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck are all back to cope with the absentees. Squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Rafael, Smalling, Fabio, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Nani, Valencia, Gibson, Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Giggs, Young, Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov. Newcastle United are boosted by the long awaited return of Hatem Ben Arfa, while Cheick Tiote must undergo a fitness test before the game. Sylvain Marveaux is out injured, while Leon Best is a doubt. Danny Guthrie is expected to play for The Magpies, while former Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan is fit again after a toe injury for his first reunion with his previous club after Sir Alex Ferguson sold him to St Jame's Park in the summer. Squad: Krul, Elliot, Simpson, R Taylor, Santon, Ferguson, Coloccini, S Taylor, Perch, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Gosling, Guthrie, Obertan, Ben Arfa, Abeid, Vuckic, Smith, Ba, Shola Ameobi, Lovenkrands, Sammy Ameobi. as a UTD fan and a university level player....i do feel UTD lack that bite in midfield....cleverly when he has played, hasn't let me feel we're missing scholesy....although thats a big thing to say,tom has a long way to go before he is in the same bracket.....,but whenever he has played....UTD have that zip, that momentum....that vintage UTD feel about them...they look more Manchester United if i may say so....!!!Today's game,i don't see too much of a threat from the Newcastle midfield unless Tiote plays ....that too to his potential after just coming back from an injury...he has yet to pass a fitness test!!!Carrick and Fletcher if they're played together, should be able to cope with the Magpies' midfield...i'm going for a 2-1 win for United,Young and Rooney!!!
