Tom Cleverley has secured a long-term, 4-year deal with Manchester United...
Manchester United have handed Tom Cleverley a permanent, long-term contract with the club after the player's recent step-up to the first team squad. The 22-year-old has been sighted as having a place in the Starting XI for years to come by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and therefore Chief Executive David Gill has awarded the midfielder a new 4-year deal with The Red Devils. Cleverley will remain at Old Trafford until at least the end of the 2014/2015 season...
Cleverley had started the season in phenomenal form, making 5 appearances and creating goals in almost every game. However, he picked-up an ankle injury in early September and has been out of action since. Tom is expected to return to the first team soon, and will again fight to regain his place. But the new 4-year deal is a major boost to signify Sir Alex's intentions to keep the 22-year-old England youth International in the heart of the midfield.
"It’s been a fantastic start to the season for me, breaking into the first team and getting an England call-up." Cleverley told United's media. "Having grown up at the club, I’d love to be able to make a contribution to United winning more trophies. We have a squad with great ability and I can’t wait to get started again." Tom has been on loan with Leicester City, Watford and Wigan Ath, who he and The Reds owe thanks to for helping his career along.
The gaffer added: "Tom is one of the brightest prospects in the English game. For a young boy, he has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a fine future ahead of him. It’s the United way to encourage our young players to make their mark in the first team and Tom has grabbed that chance with both hands." Cleverley shook hands with CEO Mr. Gill on Monday morning over the new contract.
