Match Preview: United v Manchester City 22/10/2011
Match Preview - Manchester United v Manchester City Competition: Premier League Kick-Off & Date: 1:30pm, Sunday, 23rd October 2011 Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester (Home) Live TV Coverage: Sky Sports 1 (HD), 1pm - 3:30pm Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Durham) Assistants: Simon Beck & Stephen Child Fourth Official: Howard Webb Form: United lie 2nd in the Barclays Premier League, and in the same spot in UEFA Champions League Group C. Liverpool at Anfield were held to a 1-1 draw by The Reds last weekend, and during the week Otelul Galati suffered a 2-0 defeat, in the League and Europe respectively. United have started the season in unbeatable form, and let's hope that continues against Manchester City - whom The Devils beat in the 2011 FA Community Shield already. Manchester City are sitting at the top of the domestic league, after enduring an easy start to the campaign. Their first 'Top Four' game comes against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Blues last beat Aston Villa 4-1 in the League, but are struggling in Europe despite their midweek win against Villarreal. Roberto Mancini's rent boys are in 3rd place in their group, having drawn and lost already. They were also defeat by United in August. The Injury Front: United are in tip-top shape, thanks to the recovery of some key footballers. Rio Ferdinand is back in the fray, while many players who were rested midweek in the victory over Otelul Galati will return. David De Gea will feature in goal again, after his heroics against Liverpool. Fabio Da Silva is fit, while Tom Cleverley is 'touch-and-go'. Darron Gibson and Rafael Da Silva remain sidelined for this weekend's derby. Squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Smalling, Fabio, Evans, Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Evra, Valencia, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Park, Young, Berbatov, Diouf, Hernandez, Owen, Rooney, Welbeck. Manchester City have no injury concerns to worry about, other than the fitness of former Red Owen Hargreaves - who will be on the receiving end of a nasty reception should he show his face at Old Trafford. Another former Red Devil - Carlos Tevez - is suspended from City due to a flare-up with manager Mancini in their defeat to Bayern Munich. Forward Mario Balotelli is fit, despite his house going up in flames due to a fireworks party midweek. Squad: Hart, Kompany, Richards, Kolarov, Lescott, Savic, Clichy, Zabaleta, K Toure, Nasri, Hargreaves, Johnson, Y Toure, De Jong, Milner, Barry, Silva, Balotelli, Dzeko, Aguero, Pantilimon. The Gaffer: Roberto Mancini has attracted a lot of criticism over the past couple of seasons, but his recent handling of Carlos Tevez was a strong show of authority. However, Manchester City ruined that by over-ruling him recently at a hearing, deciding that Tevez did not refuse to play against Bayern Munich. Oops... Most-Feared: David Silva is City's biggest attacking threat to United this Sunday. The 25-year-old Spanish winger has turned from flop to top in less than two seasons, and he has 2 goals and 7 assists to his name in 9 matches. He hasn't has the best of games against United, but our defenders will have to be alert ! The Ref: Mark Clattenburg has reffed United on a number of occasions, with the majority of those fixtures turning-out as victories. Sunday's top-of-the-table clash will be tighter, but Clattenburg will want to avoid any controversy on front of the Old Trafford crowd. It promises to be a thrilling Manchester Derby... United Latest's Prediction: United 2-0 Manchester City - Wayne Rooney & Luis Nani ? Commentsandi 23/10/2011 12:09pm
