Rio Misses Trip To Lisbon, Portugal 13/09/2011
Nemanja Vidic, Rafael, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck all remain in Manchester as expected, but Rio Ferdinand also did not travel to Portugal ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match against SL Benfica. However, there was a boost for the defence as Jonny Evans and Pat Evra were passed fit... Rio is not fit to travel to Lisbon, despite playing a full 90 minutes against Bolton Wanderers in the 5-0 win on Saturday. The 32-year-old defender helped keep a clean sheet for his side at the Reebok Stadium, and may be used in the same role against Chelsea next Sunday at Old Trafford. Nemanja Vidic remains sidelined with a calf injury, and is still at least a week and a half away from recovery. Rafael is out for the next month after shoulder surgery. United landed in Portugal on Tuesday, in the middle of a heatwave with temperatures well above 30° Celsius. Tom Cleverley is out for at least 4 weeks following ligament damage in his left foot and ankle, while fellow Academy graduate Danny Welbeck is back in training at Carrington but did not travel to Estadio Da Luz. But Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra have recovered from small knocks in the victory at Bolton over the weekend. Lovely squad, the backline is currently doing well so I don't expect any change...smalling,jones,evans,evra....its the attacking options that thrill the most.I reckon he'd start up rooney n chica for this game as well. Comments are closed. |
