Welbeck scored two goals in two minutes against Basel at Old Trafford in the Champions League fixture midweek, but it was left to Ashley Young to ensure Welbeck's brace counted as United snatched a late goal to end the match as a draw. Ryan Giggs assisted Dan for the first two goals, but Basel were unbelievably allowed to score three goals through Fabien and Alexander Frei in the second half, before Young via Nani rescued the game in the 90th minute.   

"The manager shows time and time again he will give local players a chance and it is then up to the individual to take it," said the Manchester-born, United Academy graduate. "I hope I can. I don't know whether it is harder for local boys up front to make it. I can only look at myself and take my opportunities when they come. To score those two goals was a bittersweet moment for me.
