Despite growing concerns over Tom Cleverley's health, the mid will face 4 weeks on the sidelines with ligament damage to his foot, but didn't suffer a break or fracture, which was originally thought. Cleverley was on the end of a negligent tackle from Kevin Davies of Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, who were beaten 5-0... With three goals from Wayne Rooney and a brace from Javier Hernandez, United took Bolton apart at the Reebok on Saturday. But five minutes into the match, Trotters' striker Kevin Davies mowed-down Cleverley from behind, before going on to execute an even worse challenge on captain Patrice Evra. Referee Andre Marriner failed to sent Davies off for the two offences, while unsurprisingly the media shied away from the contentious issue. After the game, Sir Alex Ferguson was not the least bit happy with Davies nor the umpires, and said it was what he 'expected' from such a dirty player. Cleverley revealed he did not receive an apology from Davies, and it was thought he could be out for at least three months with a break/fracture in his left foot. However, it was later confirmed by the club's medical team that Cleverley sustained ligament damage in his left peg, ruling him out for a month. Although much less a time than anticipated, the 22-year-old's absence will deal a big blow to Sir Alex's midfield. But with Darren Fletcher on his way back, and Michael Carrick now fully fit - we have a little less to worry about. Meanwhile, Jonny Evans and Evra (also a victim of Kevin Davies' tackling) are both rated doubtful for the midweek Champions League tie away to Benfica in Portugal. Both picked-up knocks in the victory over Bolton. CommentsAle 12/09/2011 1:16am
Thank God it wasn't broken or worse I was really worried bout it but it's better that he's sidelined for 4 weeks than the whole season .. i wish him a fast & full recovery Dev 12/09/2011 1:40am
I hope this injury does not cast a bad spell on this young lad's career..it would be a real disappointment since he has been already been playing so well that I'm certainly not Tanvir 12/09/2011 3:57am
That SOB Davies should have sent off. True Red 12/09/2011 6:14am
@ Dev, Cleverley is a great prospect but certainly not a Paul Scholes for the time being. You must have started to watch man utd 2-3 years ago. Where were you when Scholesy was orchestrating the whole game? He's the best creative midfielder united has ever had. Cleverley is really good but doesn't have the pinpoint long range passing as Scholesy nor his vision of the game. Hope in some years he can have the same impact as Scholesy KGB1986 12/09/2011 9:48am
