Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen says signing Wesley Sneijder is still possible...
Manchester United remain keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, but whether they will succeed before Wednesday's deadline is another story. Sneijder, 27, has told the media that anything is possible, but says he is unlikely to move at this stage. Massimo Moratti stated they will still sell if there is the opportunity, and United coach Rene Meulensteen believes Wes can still sign for the Premier League Champions if he still wants to.
The saga has continued throughout the summer, with a rumoured £35 Million transfer set to take place before the close of the window. As yet, nothing has come to fruition, but there is still time left. Sir Alex Ferguson admitted interest in Sneijder, while CEO David Gill said there is the possibility of a 'world-class' footballer arriving at Old Trafford before September 1st. However, with wage demands of more than £200,000 per week, are we going to buy Sneijder ?
"I am happy in Milan." Sneijder said. "We will see what happens. At this point, I don't think I will move. But, on the other hand, my move to Real Madrid was solved within eight hours. It would be very strange if something happened now. Things can move fast, but there is nothing going on behind the scenes." Inter owner Mr. Moratti added: "Firstly, Wesley Sneijder is still with us. But until August 31st, there is always opportunity for something to happen."
United coach Meulensteen - from Sneijder's home country of Holland - also had his say: "Sir Alex Ferguson has tremendous confidence in our current squad, but a player the calibre of Wesley Sneijder could well suit us. And, where there is a will, there’s always a way. As club and player really want it, there is always something possible. I do not see why an older player like Sneijder would not fit into our team." Now for the waiting ?...
