United Hit Where It Hurts With Injuries 14/08/2011
The Red Devils have suffered three injury blows in a matter of days, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Rafael Da Silva all ruled-out for weeks each. Rio and Vidic picked-up problems in the 2-1 win away to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, while Rafael sustained a dislocation in Friday training... Ferdinand could miss the next 6 weeks for The Champions, after sustained a pulled hamstring late on in the victory at The Hawthorns over the weekend. Rio was replaced by Phil Jones, after Vidic succumbed to a calf strain which could see him out for anything from 1 to 4 weeks. United are hopeful over Nemanja, who was succeeded by Jonny Evans on Sunday. Rafael will also be sidelined, for 10 weeks after he dislocated his shoulder at Carrington on Friday. "We've had a torrid two or three days," Sir Alex told Sky. "Rafael hurt his shoulder in training and is out for 10 weeks as he's going to need an operation. Rio has hurt his hamstring and will be out for six weeks. With Vida, we don't know whether it's a nerve problem with his calf or not. He'll have that checked tomorrow, he could be out a couple of weeks. But with Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones here, it's a godsend to be honest with you." The gaffer is confident he will have plenty of cover for his centre-halves and fullback, as Patrice Evra is expected to be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday 22nd at Old Trafford. The reigning Champs play their first 2011/2012 Premier League home game in 8 days time, where the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Fabio Da Silva featuring. Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young grabbed the goals against West Brom in the League opener. CommentsRed devil 15/08/2011 1:42am
It wasn't so long ago a load of people were slating SAF for buying another defender and another winger. Surprise surprise the legend that is SAF got it right again. Honestly think without Jones and Young we would be looking at a very poor start to a season (which has number 20 written all over it). I just hope that young keeper of ours lifts himself up and doesn't pay attention to the dim witted media. Think the keeper will make headline's for all the right reasons, but just needs a little time. It was refreshing to see the youngsters consoling him at half-time. Hope they help him get the confidence he obviously is in need of. Mufc legend 15/08/2011 2:13am

Injuries to players isn't good but if everyone had done their homework like SAF has done Phil Jones is an awesome player, he will be strong and cover for Rio just fine. We have enough strength in depth, keep the faith! Lauren 16/08/2011 12:29pm
