United midfielder Tom Cleverley has received his first senior England call-up following the withdrawal through injury of Michael Carrick. Cleverley joins Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the squad to play Holland in an International friendly at Wembley Stadium...
Tom Cleverley made his competitive debut for United on Sunday, helping The Red Devils overcome Manchester City in the FA Community Shield at Wembley. The 21-year-old mid impressed on tour in America with the club this summer and last summer, and loan spells at Leicester City, Watford and Wigan Athletic have only assisted Cleverley's maturity. Having already featured for England U-20's and U-21's, he is now set for play for the senior side.
Michael Carrick has pulled-out of The Three Lions squad after an Achilles problem. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were unlucky not to have received their first inclusions in the England set-up, but manager Fabio Capello has chosen Danny Welbeck. Familiar faces Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney have been named to play against Holland on Wednesday 10th, while new signing Ashley Young is also in the roster after impressive showings in pre-season.
