Mr. Ferguson
Sir Alex is excited by the upcoming first teamers at United. With the defence already plagued with injuries, the manager admits he is fortunate to have such good young back-up in the squad. In The Red's first Premier League game this season, the average age of the XI was just above 24 years old...

Rafael Da Silva is out of action for 10 weeks, Nemanja Vidic sidelined for 6 weeks, Rio Ferdinand missing for 2 weeks and Patrice Evra has already sat out for 2 weeks. Most teams would be close to breaking point with four senior defenders on the sickbed, but United have fantastic cover in defence. Fabio Da Silva, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are all at hand to fill-in at the back, with Evra on the mend after missing West Brom.

Sir Alex spoke... "We were always aware we had players who were coming to the end of their careers. That has been on the horizon for us for quite a few years. We knew it was going to happen, you don't want it to, but it does and there's nothing you can do about it. Age catches up with us all. So we've replaced the players who have left us, and we've still players at the club in their 30's, which is a lot of experience."

"Evans has ample experience, of course, and has been at the club since he was 12. He's played plenty of first-team games. Jones has the experience of playing for Blackburn last season in the Premier League. I thought he and Smalling were the stars for the England Under-21's in the summer, and Chris had a fantastic first season with us, and he's continued his progress this year. So I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with playing those guys."

"It's a very young team at the moment, but it's one full of energy and great ability. I'm enjoying watching them."

Keep hearing this "we dont need sneijder" business.

To win the league, maybe not. But do you want to win the CL? Last two finals, Barca destroyed us. None of our midfield would get near them.

You think cleverly will get near Xavi, Inesta, Fabregas? Not a chance. Sneijder would. So what if hes only around for 5-6 years. Enough time for Pogba and Cleverly to develop in to players good enough.

SAF wants to build for the future, but we need to realise there's a now. If we want to win things now, we need Sneijder. Everywhere else, we are complete. Wes is the missing piece.

I totally agree with Toby, we need Sneijder to beat Barca and Real. The league won't be much of a problem for us:)

I think we've got a great squad, good mix of youth and experience. The players we've bought this summer are fantastic and it's the right time to be getting the young lads into the first team. If we don't do it now while the experienced players are at their peak, and are there for the youth to learn from then we'll end up in a mess like arsenal, I don't think any of us want that. SAF does things the right way, knows wen to trust in the youth. At some point these lads have got to be given there chance otherwise what's the point in our academy, and if if we win the league and sacrifice the champions league for a couple of years then so be it, we'll be far better off for it in the long term because these kids will be top players for us long after SAF has gone if they are given a chance.

I do agree that we do need a top CM to come in, because for me Rooney ends up dropping to deep all the time to try and create chances for his strike partner and link play to the wide areas. We need someone to boss that mid field the way Roy keane did to allow the likes of Anderson, cleverly and even pogba to get creative. Theyve got it in them, and don't forget they've got the best mid field player ever to coach them now. I'm sure paul scholes now he's stopped playing has got alot of time to show these lads where the mistakes are being made. These lads have the ability they just need a wise head on their shoulders and scholesy can teach them that.

Sorry for the big rant, it hurt me as much as everyone else losing to barca like that, it was humiliating. But trying to look into the future if our young players get the chance we're not in a bad position. And these lads will be a real team and not just a load of players put together.

Toby I totally agree with everything u say.

Even if we did have snrijder I think barca are better but it would be a BIG step in closing what is becoming a bigger gap.

Totally agree united have sum promising talent but to think our midfield is strong enuff for a whole season is bordering on madness we won a pretty poor premiership last season and failed against barca again! The younger players need experience and quality on the pitch this gives them greater confidence to help them grow into the players we hope to see
...look SAF is a legend I'm never gona tell him what to do its just an opinion.. We really do need a CM of proven quality .... Please ;)

Come on united!! Wheres this 100 mill war chest that was talked about? Go get Wes! united won a poor prem last season i just dont think that will be the same this time around...it's great that united have promising youngsters coming thru but we need a proven world class CM IMO that in turn will only aid the new batch of talent at united... there has to be one that fits the bill..

I am sick of all you guys going on about Tom Cleverley! Yes he is a good little player, he is 22 and has only had 1 season of top flight footie with Wigan! He cannot play every game! 38 premier league games, best pat of 10 (hopefully 13) champions league games, a handful of Fa cups - we would be looking at a good 55 games without the league cup - to rely on cleverley on that many games would be extremely bad for his development. I don't think we have any other attack minded CM (Ando is not quite the attacking menace but a v good centre mid bully)
It makes sense to acquire sneijder - but doesn't look likely to happen! That is why we may struggle this season!
We need a world class midfielder to up our game to the next level and to make other teams sit up and see us buying big names and showing how to galvanise the current excellent squad

according to the papers sneijder has snubbed a move to city
and pulled out of training and the match 2day for personal reasons cum on fergie the lads willing to take a pay cut to secure a dream move then let's scupper arsenal in signing mville or spurs with lass diarra we need steel as much as flair and creativeness
Cleverley is cumin good but we dnt Want to burn him out
also we need to keep and eye on that young lad frm everyon he looks quality

Nasir is young and cheap but does Arsenal wants to sell to us in the first place. Just like our club refused to sell Heinze to Pool too a few years ago. Our current squad maybe is good enough for EPL title but we can forget about Champion League...
