The Kids Are Alright - Fergie 19/08/2011
Sir Alex is excited by the upcoming first teamers at United. With the defence already plagued with injuries, the manager admits he is fortunate to have such good young back-up in the squad. In The Red's first Premier League game this season, the average age of the XI was just above 24 years old... Rafael Da Silva is out of action for 10 weeks, Nemanja Vidic sidelined for 6 weeks, Rio Ferdinand missing for 2 weeks and Patrice Evra has already sat out for 2 weeks. Most teams would be close to breaking point with four senior defenders on the sickbed, but United have fantastic cover in defence. Fabio Da Silva, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are all at hand to fill-in at the back, with Evra on the mend after missing West Brom. Sir Alex spoke... "We were always aware we had players who were coming to the end of their careers. That has been on the horizon for us for quite a few years. We knew it was going to happen, you don't want it to, but it does and there's nothing you can do about it. Age catches up with us all. So we've replaced the players who have left us, and we've still players at the club in their 30's, which is a lot of experience." "Evans has ample experience, of course, and has been at the club since he was 12. He's played plenty of first-team games. Jones has the experience of playing for Blackburn last season in the Premier League. I thought he and Smalling were the stars for the England Under-21's in the summer, and Chris had a fantastic first season with us, and he's continued his progress this year. So I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with playing those guys." "It's a very young team at the moment, but it's one full of energy and great ability. I'm enjoying watching them." He ain't coming forget about him, we r strong enough to win the league but way behind barca n real Rod 20/08/2011 1:45am
U also need a bit of experience Toby Lee 20/08/2011 3:18am
Keep hearing this "we dont need sneijder" business. manutdforlife 20/08/2011 3:48am
I totally agree with Toby, we need Sneijder to beat Barca and Real. The league won't be much of a problem for us:) Jim lad 20/08/2011 4:31am
I think we've got a great squad, good mix of youth and experience. The players we've bought this summer are fantastic and it's the right time to be getting the young lads into the first team. If we don't do it now while the experienced players are at their peak, and are there for the youth to learn from then we'll end up in a mess like arsenal, I don't think any of us want that. SAF does things the right way, knows wen to trust in the youth. At some point these lads have got to be given there chance otherwise what's the point in our academy, and if if we win the league and sacrifice the champions league for a couple of years then so be it, we'll be far better off for it in the long term because these kids will be top players for us long after SAF has gone if they are given a chance. Man utd to sign £50million player soon, if carlsberg made dreams!!!so sick of this now . Agree we should of signed nasri instead. JJ UTD 20/08/2011 8:34am
Toby I totally agree with everything u say. Redphix 20/08/2011 8:57am
Totally agree united have sum promising talent but to think our midfield is strong enuff for a whole season is bordering on madness we won a pretty poor premiership last season and failed against barca again! The younger players need experience and quality on the pitch this gives them greater confidence to help them grow into the players we hope to see Devil's Chair 20/08/2011 9:11am
Come on folks; we are nowhere near Barca and that is clear. However Real- surely we are on par with them! Redphix 20/08/2011 9:19am
Come on united!! Wheres this 100 mill war chest that was talked about? Go get Wes! united won a poor prem last season i just dont think that will be the same this time around...it's great that united have promising youngsters coming thru but we need a proven world class CM IMO that in turn will only aid the new batch of talent at united... there has to be one that fits the bill.. Lee 20/08/2011 10:50am
I am sick of all you guys going on about Tom Cleverley! Yes he is a good little player, he is 22 and has only had 1 season of top flight footie with Wigan! He cannot play every game! 38 premier league games, best pat of 10 (hopefully 13) champions league games, a handful of Fa cups - we would be looking at a good 55 games without the league cup - to rely on cleverley on that many games would be extremely bad for his development. I don't think we have any other attack minded CM (Ando is not quite the attacking menace but a v good centre mid bully) Mikeyy 20/08/2011 1:08pm
@lee...cleverlys 21.. redmick442 20/08/2011 3:21pm
Nasri move to city falls down maybe he will get his wish and will sign for utd then sneijder won't matter lv utd Mufcnick 20/08/2011 6:03pm
Will fergie sign anyone else before the transfer deadline?? l33bo 21/08/2011 11:59am
according to the papers sneijder has snubbed a move to city SG RED DEVIL 21/08/2011 3:18pm
Nasir is young and cheap but does Arsenal wants to sell to us in the first place. Just like our club refused to sell Heinze to Pool too a few years ago. Our current squad maybe is good enough for EPL title but we can forget about Champion League... Comments are closed. |
