Sir Alex Salutes Revitalised Wayne Rooney 21/08/2011
Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to the work Wayne Rooney has undertaken over the summer, which in the gaffer's view has made him a better player. The 25-year-old striker scored 5 goals and assisted 5 more in pre-season, and got off to a scoring start in the Premier League last weekend against West Brom... Wayne Rooney hit the back of the net four times on tour in America, against Seattle Sounders (scoring a hat-trick) and Chicago Fire, before successfully converting a penalty against New York Cosmos in Paul Scholes' Testimonial in Manchester. The Englishman assisted 5 goals in this time also, before playing a central role in winning the Community Shield. Wazza got his League campaign off to the best of starts, bagging a goal at The Hawthorns. Sir Alex Ferguson boasted: "He’s been flying in pre-season, his fitness is terrific, he has the same energy all the time, he is a restless player on the pitch, he can never stand still and he is a tremendous asset to our squad. It’s interesting to see how he is combining with Danny Welbeck at the moment, because both have done very well together (in the past). I’ve also Dimitar Berbatov who did very well in pre-season, he played really well." "But when Chicharito returns, I’ve a selection problem to work out the best combination. For me, Chicarito has goals written all over him, so it’s not a bad position to be in." The boss added of Monday night's opposition at home, Tottenham Hotspur: "They did fantastic last year, getting to the quarter-final of the Champions League. What caught them out in the League (finishing fifth) is because of how far they did get in the Champions League..." Commentsanass 21/08/2011 11:17pm
