Wayne Rooney has set his sights on reaching Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record for United. Wazza surpassed the 150 goal mark for the club on Sunday, and has stated his intent to match the current record at Old Trafford: Sir Bobby's 249 goals, after the 25-year-old scored a three against Arsenal...
Wayne scored his first Premier League goal for Everton and United against Arsenal, he went on to bag his 100th goal in a Red shirt against Arsenal, before netting his 150th goal for the club against, yes, Arsenal. The Red Devils hammered The Gunners 8-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Danny Welbeck, Ash Young, Luis Nani and Ji-Sung Park also scoring. But Rooney took centre stage, executing his 6th career hat-trick, against The Gooners.
"Funnily enough, I was aware I was one away from 150 before the game and I spoke to a few of the players and asked how many Sir Bobby had, and Giggsy said I was 100 or so off." Roo told the press. "It's a target for me, to try and do that (reach Charlton's landmark). Hopefully, in the next few years, I can do it. A lot of my milestone goals have come against Arsenal. My first-ever goal for Everton, first Premier League goal for United..."
"...My 100th Barclays Premier League goal for United, and now 150th, all against Arsenal. It’s obviously a great feeling. The performance today was incredible and we fully deserved the result we got, I thought. I think whether they had their full squad out or not, we were going to have a go at them, play and score goals." 'The White Pelé' added: "They had a few players out but take nothing away from our performance, it was brilliant."
