Owen Hargreaves joins Manchester City
Owen Hargreaves was released by United over the summer, and after a string of excruciating injuries our fans wanted nothing less than to see the midfielder back in action at another Premier League club. However, Hargo has taken the dangerous step of joining geographical rivals, Man City...

Hargreaves, 30, was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Bayern Munich for almost £20 Million in the summer of 2007. Despite supporters expectations, he was riddled with injuries and played just 39 games for the club, scoring 2 goals over 4 seasons. This summer he was released, and publicly stated his intentions to regain full fitness and join another Premier League football team. United followers wished him luck, but that was until he joined City !

After paying a massive fee, millions in wages, even more in medical costs and all our mental support, Owen accepted the offer of undergoing a medical at the Etihad Stadium. Joining on a 1-year contract, with a massive salary, it is unlikely that Hargreaves will do much more than warm the bench. It's match fitness he needs now most of all, but again another player has fallen for the greed of £££, following Carlos Tevez to Manchester's lesser club.

Hargreaves won the UEFA Champions League and Barclays Premier League with The Red Devils, but this season will be chasing the glory of, eh, The FA Cup ?... It's a dodgy move for Hargreaves, who won't be forgiven by our fans. After all our patience, and then goodwill, he repays us by joining our rivals. It's a free world, but United undoubtedly have better players, as was shown at the weekend in our 8-2 mauling of Arsenal at Old Trafford.

We won't miss you after that, Owen.
Welcome To Manchester... Royal Infirmary: Owen Hargreaves

Why all the hate on him ? He offer to play for us free and we turned him down. He want to play football, what other choice does he have ? His situation clearly different than Tevez.

Remember we have players like Peter Schmeichel or Andy Cole were also played for City after leaving United. Think before you speak

Unlike City, United are not a small-minded club. Our fans should also refrain from thinking like those of a small minded club. Hargo did all he could for us, and we should see things from his perspective. With City, he gets the chance to play Champions League football. It was us after all, who released him, despite him offering to play for free. Calling him greedy is unfair. It will be difficult seeing him play for City only because he's such a genuine and likable player. I for one, won't be booing him when he puts on that blue jersey. Let's show some class and get behind him. As you said, we have better players, so it's not a loss for us. If anything, it's a financial loss for City, who will now have to deal with his medical bills. Either way, let's wish him luck. He's done a lot for United, and we've done a lot for him. So what if he moved to City? He's a professional - anyone in his place would do the same.

Below poster (Mayama) hasn't a clue! If he wanted to play football week in week out he would have chosen West Brom, QPR or Leceister who all made him offers...

I dun get why everyone talking so negatively abt him. He's a player in need of a club. He wants to play football. He offered to play for free and the club rejected. I was a little disgusted when i heard the news tht the club rejected his request.
Come on guys he ain't like Tevez. Please stop passing bad comments on such a good player.

@Andrew Murphy: Are you sure those clubs interested in him, or it's just in the papers like those Sneijder rumors ?

How can you call someone who wanted to play for FREE greedy ? If you want to blame someone, blame ourself for rejecting him.

@Andrew Murphy
You call a player willing to play for free as "greedy"?
What do u think Hagreaves will feel if he saw all this nonsense? He volunteered to play for FREE again i emphasized. I felt pity towards him when the club rejects.
And let's be realistic, when a club like manchester city come for you and you're a free agent, would u really reject?

Yea Fuck that, leave the guy alone. He wanted to stay at Utd and fergie told him to hit the road. He was class for a while for us and did everything he could to get fit at the time. Would be more than ironic if he gets back to full fitness and into the starting line-up at Shitty. Could be one of Fergies biggest clangers but I doubt it. Good luck Hargo, will never forget that free kick against Arsenal.

Some United fans's attitude dissapointed me. I bet you would bashed Sir Matt Busby as well because he used to play for City before managing United.

Bitter much? If can can play for the second best team in the league right now then he should go for it. We're the ones that showed him the door so he doesn't owe us anything. As an England fan as well as a Man U fan, I just want him playing football again, no matter who it's for. The quicker he's back in the England team the better, and with the players he'll be alongside at Man City it's the best thing for him. End of story.

You just keep thinking about yourself, why not put you into his situation, i bet you would accept that offer in a heartbeat.

I just can't believe it, he wanted to play for free i we turned him down, but because he's about to sign for City, you are cursing at him.... Common guys, this is a sportsman's life. They switch when it time to switch.
Look at yourselves, you go round buying players like De Gea, Young, Phil Jones costing you less than &20 mil, but when it comes to selling, you sell at &30-80 mil ( Ronaldo ).. You would not buy anyone above &20 mil anymore?????
Leave that lad ( Owen H ) alone. We should wish him luck and not curse him......

I'm pretty sure Man City were not the only club willing to take Hargreaves on, yet after us paying his wages for years and getting nothing in return, as well as the extremely large medical costs and generally supporting him and giving him more chances to recover than anyone else would have... he decides to go to a bitter rival? Nice! Out of respect for our fans he should have gone to QPR, Villa or any of the others who I don't doubt for a second have expressed an interest. A club like Blackpool (for instance) would have bitten his hand off if he'd made the offer. Not that bothered in the sense that I doubt he'll be effective for them, but just on principle I think it's a totally disrespectful. I know Michael Owen pissed off the sousers coming to United on a similar pay-as-you-play deal, but that wasn't directly from Liverpool to United.

When Hargreaves was let go it was with my blessing and hopes that he'd manage to continue his career, but I won't spare another thought on him now.

Whatever anyone says about him being a good guy YOU DON'T JOIN SHITY. Knowing the history of united, and that blue scum still chanting munich songs you don't get to know sir bobby and everyone at the club, and then let them chant something along the lines of their tevez song about you it's bollocks! joining them strikes at every real united supporters heart! I am sure they are doing this just to piss us off! And its working! - C##TS lets be realistic here, it's about shit loads of cash to hardly ever play a game, sorry Owen, but like brian kidd, your a dick!

I get the feeling that most being supportive of his decision are not Mancunians, or even foreign fans. Well all I can say is that you know little of the real local rivalry between the two clubs. That's OK... I can understand that, you don't live here in Manchester so why should you know the extent of the rivalry? But please, think a little before accusing other fans of not being "classy" with their negative opinions on this. Unless you live here, you don't understand. Simple. The same feelings would have been felt had the lad gone from Arsenal to Spurs (or visa versa), or Villa to Birmingham or any number of other instances of extreme local rivalry. The fact is, as I said in my other post, Man City were NOT the only club to express an interest. He paid no thoughts to how we'd feel, so if you are a United fan you'll spare no more thoughts on him. As for those mentioning England... who really gives a shit? United fans are not the biggest national team followers, for obvious and historic reasons, so please don't bring them into it. In fact playing MORE games for QPR would have done more for his game than the small handful he'll likely get at the big blue council house.

What I shame we all hoped he could carry on playing for us time after time after each set back but eventually we had to give up wasting millions on wages and treatments. I wished him well on his journey but feel he has let all the united fans down who supported him through all his troubles by joining the mercenaries I honestly can't say I won't laugh if he breaks down again now sorry dude you crossed us :-(

Sure the lad wants to play, but he also needs to put bread on the table. A "pay as you play" deal at Blackpool is not going to put as much Upper Crust on the table as warming the bench for City.

I'm happy that he can play for a CL team. The guy offered to play for us for free, its so sad to see his United career not finish off great. But somebody like Hargreaves does not derserve to go to a crap team like West Ham. So regardless of him going to Man City, I wish him best of luck!
