Match Preview: Manchester City v United 06/08/2011
Match Preview - Manchester City v Manchester United Competition: FA Community Shield Kick-Off & Date: 2:30pm, Sunday, 7th August 2011 Venue: Wembley Stadium, London (Neutral) Live TV Coverage: Sky Sports 1 (HD), 2:15pm - 5pm Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire, England) Assistant Referees: Simon Long & Andrew Garratt Fourth Official: Kevin Friend Form: Manchester City haven't endured as good a pre-season as Manchester United have, with Roberto Mancini's mercenaries following The Red Devils over to the United States. However, tours count for precious little unless they gave a positive bearing on the new season. City beat Club America, Vancouver Whitecaps, Airtricity League Of Ireland XI and Inter Milan, but drew with LA Galaxy which turned Mancini against striker Mario Balotelli. United completed their highly successful US Tour with a brilliant 2-1 win over FC Barcelona, after annihilating New England Revolution, Seattle Sounders, Chicago Fire and the MLS All-Stars on front of almost 300,000 supporters altogether. The Red Devils latterly competed in Monaco, Amsterdam and Manchester for a Charity match, Edwin Van Der Sar's Testimonial and Paul Scholes' Testimonial respectively within the past week. The Injury Front: City are without sulking striker Carlos Tevez, who is scheming a move away from the Etihad Stadium, while defender Pablo Zabaleta has been handed an extended holiday. The 'noisy neighbours' have again spent big this summer, and it's unlikely that Sergio Aguero will be the last arrival at the club this transfer window. However, the Argentine is excepted to start Sunday's Community Shield on the bench, following sickness. United will have Javier Hernandez looking on from the crowd, as the Mexican hitman is set to be rested for at least a fortnight after his concussion scare following a head injury received in training. Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick are both out, while doubts remain over the fitness of Antonio Valencia. But it's likely that Rafael will feature after recovering speedily from a knock he picked up in the friendly victory over Barcelona in Washington. Squad: De Gea, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, Amos, Evra, Jones, Ferdinand, Smalling, Vidic, Fabio, Rafael, Evans, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Valencia, Gibson, Cleverley, Owen, Berbatov, Rooney, Welbeck, Macheda, Diouf. The Gaffer: Roberto Mancini is quite a fiery character, and the former Italian striker doesn't look suited to management either. However, City fans are happy for the time being as he continues to spend, spend, spend. Little does he have to show for it though... The FA Cup ! Most-Feared: Sergio Aguero has been drafted in as a replacement for want-away captain Carlos Tevez. The 23-year-old Argentinian striker has a fantastic goalscoring record for previous club Atletico Madrid, and was former teammates with new United goalie David De Gea... The Red: Phil Dowd is probably one of the worst picks The Football Association could have made for this weekend's Community Shield at Wembley. He is likely to get most of the stick from United fans, as City failed to sell their full allotment as we did nearly a month ago ! United Latest's Prediction: Manchester City 0-2 United - Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young ? CommentsRedrus 07/08/2011 12:12am
