Antonio Valencia with Sir Alex Ferguson after signing for Manchester United in 2009
Manchester United winger pens a new, 4-year contract which will keep him grounded until summer 2015...

Antonio Valencia has inked a new, long-term contract with the Premier League Champions, as announced by Chief Exec David Gill over the weekend. Valencia has signed a 4-year deal with Manchester United, which will tie him to Old Trafford until the end of the 2014/2015 season at the least. The 25-year-old's existing contract would have gone void in two years, and his previous wage package is reported to have doubled to £80,000 per week.

The Ecuadorian signed from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2009, for £16 Million, and agreed a 4-year deal then worth £40,000 every week. The flanker has made a major impact in his two seasons at United, winning three major titles partly down to his 10 goals and 14 assists in 68 caps for The Red Devils. Valencia played 49 games in his first term, but just 19 last campaign due to a six-month serious left ankle injury, which he had recovered from.

Valencia told ManUtd.Com: "I am delighted to stay at United. Since my first day at Carrington, I have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player. I am looking forward to making my contribution to helping this squad compete for more trophies." Antonio suffered another left ankle injury this summer with Ecuador in the Copa America, but despite missing the club's 2011 US Tour, he is on the road to recovery once again.

Sir Alex Ferguson - working on another summer signing - also expressed his delight at the news, saying: "Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us. He has a quiet, unassuming way of going about his business, which is underlined by great strength of character – as his recovery from such a bad injury last season proves." Cheers to Antonio !

Barton would be an excting signing if he joins us on a free...will give us more steel like keane ! on a free transfer i'd say , hell yeah , lets sign barton + get a world class midfielder....barton is better than carrick and gibson anyways...lets get barton , sure to raise some eyebrows !

Great news, Valencia is a top class "classic" winger. His performance against Chelsea, specifically the utter humiliation he dished out to Ashley Cole, will live long in the memory. Not even Cristiano Ronaldo ever humiliated Cole to that effect.

Saying Joey Barton is like Roy Keane is like saying Michael Owen is like Dennis Law. Joey Barton is NOTHING like Roy Keane.

Saying Joey Barton is better than Michael Carrick is like saying Darron Gibson is better than Sir Bobby Charlton. Joey Barton is NOT better than Michael Carrick

Saying Joey Barton is better than Darron Gibson is like saying Cesc Fabregas is better than Thiago Alcantara.

Joey Barton is NOT GOOD ENOUGH for Manchester United. I'd rather have Scott "Workrate Over Technique" Parker...

Joey Barton is a CUNT.

Carrick and fletcher are better than Barton, hell even Gibson is better. Signing Barton would be embarrassing! Fergie will never sign him, Cleverly will get picked before him.

Great to hear Tony V signing new contract. He is a great player. I think we have the best wingers in europe with Nani, Tony V and Ashley Young.

Don't think we will got for Barton as Gill said we will only sign world class player

he said he will add some steel to our midfield
he's a hard tackling midfield player who chips in with goals. maybe not a bad signing on a free we need that player to sit infront of the defence n break up play Gibson and carrick dont do that

he hasnt said he's as good as Keane he said hes a tough tackler like Keane and that's wat were missing really someone who isn't afraid to get stuck in
I think for free he's a good signing guys n he wudnt want stupid wages either. so seems like a good signing for free plus he's an ex city player too.

Barton is nothing but trouble. Valencia is a great player and I'm glad he's staying. Now they need to sign WS. Can't wait to see The King "ooh aah" at OT 2morrow.
