Sir Alex Ferguson gives Antonio Valencia a new, 4-year contract
Antonio Valencia is set to pledge his long-term future to United, after Chief Executive David Gill told reporters that the 25-year-old Ecuadorian is in the process of signing a new contract with the club. It is speculated that Valencia will pen a new, 4-year deal worth £80,000 per week to the winger...

Valencia will practically double his money, having joined Old Trafford from Wigan Athletic for a fee in the region of £16 Million in 2009. The Ecuador International signed a 4-year agreement, worth approximately £40,000-a-week. He is now expected to repeat the same, only this time the 4-year deal will be worth in excess of £80,000 each week. Valencia has made 68 appearances, scoring 10 goals and assisting 14 more in two seasons at United.

His impressive tally of both goals and assists have landed him a new contract, with the added bonus that he will remain a United player for the long haul. Last season, the flanker missed almost 6 months after fracturing and dislocating his left ankle in a Champions League game against Rangers at Old Trafford in September. Furthermore, he was forced to pull out of the Copa America earlier this summer due to a minor problem in the same area.

Valencia did not travel with the squad to America for this summer's pre-season tour, but remained at Carrington to work on his fitness levels. "We are in the process of finalising that (a new deal for Antonio)," David Gill stated. "He has been away at the Copa America and we've been away here, but that's broadly sorted out. That should be announced next week, when we're back from the States. The length of the deal will come out when it comes out."

Dimitar Berbatov could remain in Manchester for another two years, as Javier Hernandez is lined-up for a new deal also. However, talks with Inter Milan, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for Wesley Sneijder, Samir Nasri and Luka Modric are currently 'dead'. Gill responded to the questions, saying: "We didn't progress with that one (Sneijder). I'm not doing anything on anything at the moment, so they are all dead." But will we revive them ?...

Lets hope the lad can stay injury free for a large if not whole portion of that 4 yr agreement.

He's not generally an injury prone player though, that was just a horrific tackle, which is why he was able to recover from it so well. So I don't expect him to be injured any more than the average player.

Inferior to both Nani and Young, and not versatile at all. Not one of my favourite United players tbh.

He is more direct n less greedy than nani that's for sure. He has some assists to his name n the pace he has is outstanding. Young has a long way to prove his worth in the team. What he did in pre season? Nothing at all.

@J-Dawg - he's unspectacular but he gets the job done. I understand where you're coming from though, Nani is more a more spectacular player and indeed more versatile, but Valencia is a shade more dependable. That said, I've never seen Valencia come up with big goals like Nani has done against the likes of City and Arsenal. It's a tough one... let's just be glad we have both of them, plus Young!

Valencia is a classic winger compare to Nani or Young, but he has the ability to surprise many defenders. Just ask Ashley Cole how many time he got owned by Valencia.

@chirayu poudel: the injury happened during the champions league game vs Rangers and it wasn't a horrific tackle, there was no contact by the rangers player, if your going to comment on football related discussions you should get your facts right =)

Inferior to nani and young! You my friend are a complete fuckwit! As last season proved without Valencia in the side Rooney is just lost as he doesn't know when or where the delivery is coming from. With Valencia it is beat the man, whipped in, goal, thanks for coming.

There is no way on this earth the Club will sanction a £35M buy for someone who is nearer 30 years old than 20 - absolutely not a chance.

Gill has just said in the last day or so in his 'comfortable with the debt' interview, that the Club would be happy to spend big on players of the right age - and he also said years ago that Berbatov would be the last buy of that kind.

Like it or not but the only way Sneijder is coming is if they can get him around half the price Inter are asking - and for him to take a drop in wages.

We should fuck it off and do what we're historically good at, find the up and coming stars instead of the readymade ones - the whole package it takes to secure the services of Sneijder could easily get us 2 outstanding younger players.

And I'm stilll not convinced Sneijder is the player we need anyway, he'd have to play a different role than he's been playing for Club and Country for the past few years.

No doubt a great player, but we really should be able to spend over £35M a lot more wisely - Nasri, M'Vila, Martinez, Ozil was less than £15M FFS - surely with scouts stationed all over the fucking place we can spot a number of others??

Where are all the clueless cretins to tell Barracuda that he is wrong when he says "And I'm stilll not convinced Sneijder is the player we need anyway, he'd have to play a different role than he's been playing for Club and Country for the past few years."?

I have been berated on another thread for saying this. The matter of the fact is, what Barracuda says here is true!

He would have to play deeper, and he showed at Real Madrid he couldn't hack it when given that role!

Why risk such an obscene amount of money on a player who would either be playing a new role in which he has previously failed to perform well in, or to be played in a role where we already have a world class player for (Rooney)?

I wouldn't be surprised if the interest in Sneijder is just a decoy.

I have said from the beginning that Sneijder won't fit to United system, and I stand by that. Out of all, Sneijder is the worst option.

i disagree actually fellas and think he would be superb in our midfield with fletcher behind him.

No doubt it's stupid money and a big ask but I think if the move is sanctioned he would vastly improve on what we have now Scholes has gone. There's no doubt other players might be better suited but if Wes is the man we get I think he'll be fantastic in behind and linking up with Rooney with chico up top.

That's my view on things.
