Joey Barton to Manchester United ?
United are interested in signing midfielder Joey Barton, according to the latest reports. The Newcastle United captain is an unlikely target for Sir Alex, but the press are adamant that The Red Devils are keen on the troublesome 28-year-old. However, the boss says he is currently not in the market...

Premier League Champions United are in desperate need of at least one central midfielder, following the retirement of  Paul Scholes and the release of Owen Hargreaves at the end of last season. Darren Fletcher is on the road to recovery following an illness, while Darron Gibson is in search of a club away from Old Trafford. Players like Wesley Sneijder, Samir Nasri and Luka Modric have been citied as targets, but never before Joey Barton.

Barton is an interesting character both on and off the field. He has been compared to United's legendary Irish mid Roy Keane, but does not have the same ability on the field nor the self control off it. That's not to say Barton would be a bad purchase, with 5 goals and 9 assists in 35 matches for Newcastle United last season. Despite Keano's wiry behaviour in public, Barton is much worse and is commonly referred to as 'a thug', with a number of arrests.

Talks with The Magpies or the former Manchester City midfielder have not yet begun, as the club continue to search further for a possible Paul Scholes replacement. Sir Alex, however, had this to say: "We are always looking for good quality players. We started the season with the players we have, and I am satisfied with that. We are not looking at the moment, but we are looking at combinations of central midfielders now at the club."

DO NOT SIGN HIM FERGIE!!! His brother is an axe-murdering racist and he has never shown that he is excactly cut from different cloth. NOT a player I ever want to see in a United shirt, and I wouldn't care if he scored a hattrick every week. AVOID

Agree with Ken. I'm not paying to watch shite like Gibson and Anderson. I can see that "quality" of football for free on a Sunday morning at the park.

Interesting comment about Anderson, but the stats show and my eyes that we go forward and get more passes when he plays than say, carrick! One hood pass to giggs at Stamford bridge is all I saw of carrick! We need fletcher fit with cleverely giggs park nani young Valencia and so called want awY Gibson, it ain't all that bad. Defense is solid and forwards 1st class, we should be able to bed in de gae and win title number 20. I agree champions league would need a sneijder type signing to give us edge.

Barton's just what we need - a bit of steel in the engine room. A midfield of Fletcher, Carrick and Barton looks very good on paper. I think we'd twat Barca with that.

fergie has done great for us and we respect that , but i think its time and its time for good.....i hope he wins his 20th and then respectfully resign , someone like pep or mourinho should be the next utd manager now , and its time , we cant just fucking play with the same players every season , esp. the mid field i'm talking bat , its full of shite , i aint gonna pay to watch this midfield play , not turnin my back or wateva , just pointing the out the bitter truth !

Kings - alright pal, how are you? I'm not too bad. Buzzin about the next friendly. The lads have looked class on the tour, especially Obertan and Diouf. They'll be class players for us.

I think Barton is someone we could do with! We haven't had a player with the mettle or ability to break up play since Keano. Barton would be a destructive and disruptive force in winning any midfield battle.

Barca would be scared of him! Rem ere Keano enforcing the midfield busting a gut fir the cause? Barton is in the same mould, and a snip of a price tag!

Barton wouldn't be too bad at all.. He a clever player with a bit of steel & lots of self belief .. Old Trafford wouldn't faze him one bit. Also he's turned his life around and deserves total respect for that .. Go for him I say..
