Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Blackburn Rovers and England Youth International defender Philip Jones. The 19-year-old centre back is The Red Devil's first signing of what is expected to be a busy summer at The Theatre Of Dreams. Jones, tipped to be the future England captain, joined the ranks of the Premier League Champions on Monday, signing a 5-year contract worth over £20 Million to Blackburn... Jones has been the target of bids from Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, not to mention the club he has signed for. Scousers' manager Kenny Dalglish attempted to ruin Sir Alex Ferguson's agreement, as Fergie did to Dalglish with the Roy Keane transfer, but Jones already had his mind made up and the £16.5 Million contract clause had been triggered by United. The full instalment will amount to over £20 Million, Rovers boss Steve Kean has confirmed. Phil Jones impressed on Sunday night with the England U-21's against Spain U-21's, where Reds striker Danny Welbeck stunned the Spanish with an equaliser 2 minutes from full-time in Denmark. Jones lined-up alongside United youngsters Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Welbeck, while opposition goalkeeper David De Gea is also set to become Jones' teammate at Old Trafford when he completes a switch from Atletico Madrid. The defender Tweeted: "I'd just like to start off by saying that I've loved my time at Blackburn, and I will always be a huge fan," adding: "But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am looking forward to a new challenge." Rovers supporters and officials have wished Jones well on Europe's biggest sporting stage, while United fans, players and staff have hailed Sir Alex's shrewd business, conducted from the south of France. Jones completed a medical last week at the Carrington Training Centre, and will shake hands with CEO David Gill when he returns from the European Under-21 Championships in a couple of weeks' time. A lot of money for an unproven defender, I don't doubt he will be good in the future - when this may prove to be a bargain price simpson 14/06/2011 10:24am
its been reveled that all the signing will be completed before...pre-season starts...unless players leaving ....or players available at the right price....... simpson 14/06/2011 10:34am

Lol @ SKY BET. How can you quote the "odds" of Sanchez going to "3" clubs then say it's 50/50 where he goes?? I take it maths isn't your strong point mate, lol........and they say us Irish are stupid, lol Face 14/06/2011 6:53pm
We do need Sanchez...as nani is link wif real Madrid...he can be THE NEXT BIG THING!!! TRANSFER NEWS 14/06/2011 7:27pm
no news yet in how the meeting went today . Zinedine 14/06/2011 9:54pm
United will sign one of Sneijder, Modric or Nasri. It doesn't make any sense to sign Sanchez unless Nani is on his way out which is a possibility, particularly if he is used in the Sneijder deal. It'll be one more big signing then all done for the summer methinks! Justin 14/06/2011 10:31pm
Welcome to United Phil! Hope you enjoy Old Trafford. Jw97 17/06/2011 8:02am
I don't think united will get sneijder or sanchez but SAF will go for two different options. Rodwell and Adam. Would still be good signings for us though. Carl 17/06/2011 3:14pm
So you think Rodwell and adams would be good signins ????? Let's see xavi and iniesta v Rodwell and Adams!!!!!! Enough said. Comments are closed. |
