Manchester United will sign David De Gea shortly
David De Gea has told of his admiration of retired United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar. The 20-year-old Spaniard will sign for The Red Devils this July, and is expected to become no.1 at the world's biggest club. But Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos will be challenging right behind him...

David De Gea, at 6ft 3½in, is currently in Denmark with Spain U-21's for the underage European Championships. He recently saved a penalty, and made headlines galore last season for Atletico Madrid. De Gea is seen as a long-term replacement for Van Der Sar, who bowed-out at the age of 40, meaning our tall Mediterranean goalie could ply his trade at Old Trafford for 20 years. It's unlikely, but anything is possible in football.

"Edwin Van Der Sar has played for 20 years at the top level and he is a reference for me. He is a great goalkeeper and he has always shown that," De Gea told reporters in Denmark. "When I was young, I liked Peter Schmeichel a lot. Him and Van Der Sar are the two best goalkeepers that I have seen."

"I am trying to concentrate on the European Championships. For a player it is important only to think about that and not on things that come from elsewhere. I don't think it is necessary to be talking about the question (of the transfer) all of the time. But Manchester is a great club and it is an honor that they are interested in me, but Atletico Madrid is also a big club," he added, conservatively.

Who cares about Sanchez? This article is about our new number 1, who I reckon will be a quality signing by fergie. The re-build has started with de gea, jones and young. We shouldn't be splashing out £30- 40 million on unproven players, had we even heard of Sanchez before this circus started? I hadn't!

ASHLEY YOUNG has arrived at Bridgewater Hospital for his Manchester United medical.

The Aston Villa winger will undergo two hours worth of tests before sealing his £20million switch to Old Trafford.

Our exclusive picture shows the 25-year-old arriving for his checks dressed in a red Muhammed Ali hoodie and blue jeans.

Young is expected to finalise terms on a four-year deal worth £100,000 a week with the Premier League champions.
