Manchester United may have finished the season on a low, but there was plenty to pick from an overall positive campaign. But now it's time to start afresh, with The Red Devils heading to The United States Of America for the second summer running to begin a mouthwatering 2011 Pre-Season Tour...
United will fly to America in July, taking on New England Revolution, Seattle Sounders, Chicago Fire, MLS All-Stars and FC Barcelona in major USA cities such as; Boston, Seattle, Chicago, New York / New Jersey and Washington DC respectively. The friendlies are part of a major ongoing marketing frenzy between what is now the world's largest sports team and their 350 Million plus supporters around the world, from Salford to Singapore.
American logistics giant - DHL Express - has agreed a multi-million pound deal with United to sponsor the 2011 US Tour. Along with ticket revenue, merchandise sales, sponsorship and media events, the Pre-Season journey has success written all over it before it even starts. Last season, The Reds visited Canada, The US, Mexico and The Republic Of Ireland, but most of the club's star names were taking part in the FIFA World Cup.
With a full squad this off-season, players and staff can't wait to travel across the pond and hit The States. Sir Alex Ferguson was first to voice his anticipation... "We’re finding it increasingly more exciting every time we come to the States. Major League Soccer is now developing into a very competitive league and producing good teams who are making games much more difficult, as we found last year."

Captain Nemanja Vidic, who was on International duty as Serbian skipper last summer, is relishing his first-ever trip to 'the land of opportunity'. "It'll be my first time in America when we fly over for the Pre-Season Tour and I’m really looking forward to it. I know the lads who went last year had a great experience and really enjoyed the trip. I watched last year’s tour matches on TV so I know we had some really competitive games against the MLS sides."
Premier League winning fullback Patrice Evra added: "I've always loved visiting America. Every year I go on holiday I spend maybe one or two weeks in The States. I've been all over the country, to Texas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, New York, Chicago... And there are still many other places I'd like to see. There's always a great vibe in America and, especially in the big cities, I love all the tall buildings. It's hard to pick a favourite city !"
"The atmosphere there is fantastic. You've got people dancing in the street and enjoying themselves - there's a lot of energy about the place. And there are lots of different cultures throughout The States; English, Irish, Italian, French - it's very international. I'll be visiting some fantastic US cities on this summer's tour with United and, after the great things my team-mates told me about last year's trip, I'm really looking forward to it."
Some of United's American footballers, namely Antonio Valencia and Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, will possibly miss the first stage of the trip to The United States, as they will arrive back in late June or early July from respective 2011 CONMEBOL and CONCACAF Tournaments.
