Match Preview: Arsenal v United 01/05/2011
Match Preview - Arsenal v Manchester United Competition: Premier League Kick-Off & Date: 2:05pm, Sunday, 1st May 2011 Venue: Emirates Stadium, London (Away) Live TV Coverage: Sky Sports 1 (HD), 1:30pm - 4pm Referee: Chris Foy (Lancashire, England) Assistant Referees: John Flynn & Andy Garratt Fourth Official: Lee Mason Form: Arsenal aren't in good shape at the moment, practically ruled out of the Barclays Premier League title race, having been beaten in the Carling League Cup Final, and knocked-out of the The FA Cup and the Champions League. The Gunners have taken just 2 points from a possible 9 in their last three domestic league games, against Bolton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, allowing Chelsea to pip them into 2nd place. United are not sitting pretty on a 6 point lead, after Chelsea cut the gap to just 3 points with their highly contentious 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. If The Reds were to falter at the Emirates, The Blues will attempt to overtake United when the two sides meet at Old Trafford next Sunday. That's a nervy possibility, and so Sir Alex Ferguson and the players will be doing all they can to ensure a win away from home this weekend. The Injury Front: Arsenal will be without Abou Diaby, who has failed to return to fitness following a calf injury. Tomas Rosicky has reportedly passed fit for Sunday's match-up, but Thomas Vermaelen - who returned from injury against United Reserves on Thursday - is not yet prepared for first team football. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski remains injured with a shoulder problem. United welcome back Dimitar Berbatov, who returns after a two-game spell on the touchline. The Bulgarian striker will at least make the bench, having recovered from a groin injury. Darren Fletcher is moving ever closer to a comeback, after suffering from the flu, Anders Lindegaard is out of action for a few weeks still - having underwent a knee operation, while Owen Hargreaves is not expected to play again this season after sustaining a shoulder injury. The Gaffer: Arsene Wenger may be in his last season at the Emirates. The Frenchman hasn't won a trophy with The Gunners in 6 years - failing to beat Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final, losing-out in The FA Cup, the Champions League and now the Premier League - he could well leave the club ! Most-Feared: Jack Wilshere claimed the 2011 PFA Young Player Of The Year award recently, coming in ahead of Chicharito and Luis Nani. The compact 19-year-old midfielder has high hopes of becoming a frequent England International, but unfortunately for him - he isn't as eager when it comes to Arsenal... The Ref: Chris Foy takes the reigns for the second time in a game between United and Arsenal this season. He oversaw The Reds beating The Gunners 2-0 in The FA Cup Quarter-Finals in March, avoiding controversy. He has dished-out 77 yellows and 2 red cards in 31 games this campaign. Not too bad ? United Latest's Prediction: Arsenal 1-3 United - A high-scoring game, with goals from Wayne Rooney, Luis Nani and Dimitar Berbatov ? CommentsChris m 01/05/2011 10:59am
If park gets the nod we win lol LoveMCR_ 01/05/2011 11:25am
I'd expect/hope for as close to Tuesday nights side as possible. With maybe Giggs out for Anderson. It's a strong experienced balanced side that would do what we did to Shalke. But with a worse keeper we'd beat them by 4-5 CJ 01/05/2011 11:53am
