Owen Hargreaves released by Manchester United
United have confirmed the release of crippled midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who has made a mere 39 appearances in 4 seasons at Old Trafford. Following on from tendinitis, hamstring and shoulder problems, the 30-year-old former England International will be set free from The Red Devils to rebuild his career elsewhere...

At 30, Hargreaves has little years ahead of him, and with his tendency to sustain injuries there is little hope of the once flourishing Bayern Munich mid continuing in the line of professional football. Despite some cameo returns for The Red Devils, Hargreaves leaves the club with less than 40 games played after transferring for £20 Million from Germany in 2007. Over the past three seasons, Hargo has appeared just 5 times for the first team.

"This has been a difficult decision knowing how hard the lad has worked to win back his fitness," Sir Alex said in a statement on ManUtd.Com. "But we have made it in the hope he will be able to resurrect his career elsewhere."

Doubts over the other Owen...
Hargreaves would have outstayed his 4-year contract this summer at any rate, but the club have decided to cut their losses and declare the Canadian-born player a free agent. Meanwhile, doubts remain over the futures of strike pair Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov - both in their 30's - while Edwin Van Der Sar, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes are all retired. Wes Brown is also uncertain over his career in Manchester, with many targets lined-up this off-season.

Goalkeeper David De Gea (Atletico Madrid) is expected to join the United ranks within weeks, while Ashley Young (Aston Villa) is understood to have underwent a preliminary medical at Carrington. Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan), Luka Modric (Tottenham Hotspur) and Alexis Sanchez (Udinese) have also been cited heavily as Old Trafford bound. 'A busy summer ahead' CEO David Gill said recently...
