Berbatov, Fletcher Fail To Make Schalke Trip 25/04/2011
Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Fletcher were the notable absentees when United left Manchester for Schalke, Germany on Monday morning. The Bulgarian striker is sidelined with a groin injury, while the Scottish midfielder is still suffering the effects of a virus. Owen Hargreaves and Bébé also failed to make the cut... The 23-man squad left Manchester Airport on Monday morning, bound for Schalke, Germany. On the plane were the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and John O'Shea - who were all doubts for Tuesday night's match-up with FC Schalke 04 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. However, Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Fletcher, Owen Hargreaves and Bébé all stayed at home due mainly to injuries. But the return of Michael Owen will help United's case. Berbatov is still struggling with a groin strain that he received in training in the build-up to the 1-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Bulgarian should return for the crunch game with Arsenal at the Emirates next Sunday. Fletcher has missed the past few months for The Reds through a virus, but the Scottish International captain is also expected to feature against The Gunners on May 1st. Hargreaves is still out of action with a shoulder injury, while Bébé is considered too inexperienced for a UEFA Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg. Travelling Squad: Edwin Van Der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Patrice Evra, Wes Brown, Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea, Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic, Fabio Da Silva, Rafael Da Silva, Oliveira Anderson, Ryan Giggs, Ji-Sung Park, Michael Carrick, Luis Nani, Paul Scholes, Antonio Valencia, Gabriel Obertan, Darron Gibson, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez.
