Paul Scholes Collects 2-Match Suspension 13/03/2011
United veteran Paul Scholes will miss the next 2 matches for The Reds after picking-up his 10th yellow card of the season. The 36-year-old midfielder replaced Patrice Evra with 10 minutes to go in United's 2-0 triumph over Arsenal in The FA Cup Quarter-Finals at Old Trafford. Scholes arrived just in time to make his mark on the game... Scholes committed to a two-footed tackle on Marouane Chamakh beyond the 90 minutes, booked by referee Chris Foy for his challenge and was then given a talking to after another poor tackle minutes later. Scholes has played in 21 domestic games for United this term, incurring 10 yellow cards - something which has been customary to Paul over the last few seasons. Nonetheless, he strung some quality passes together on Saturday also. The 36-year-old will be absent from Premier League games against Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United, which fall in late March and early April respectively. FA rules state that a player is to miss 2 domestic games if they accumulate 10 yellow cards before the 2nd Sunday of the month of April. Scholes has also been fined £15. Ouch ! I imagine Scholesy will be able to take the 2 game ban on the chin, but that 15 quid fine will be the killer ! nwachukwu chimanuel 13/03/2011 12:44pm

I for one am scholesys biggest fan, but I think he needs to call it a day. Over the years he has been the best player England has produced. But he is deteriating before my eyes. I still see his fantastic range and sensible passing but it reminds me off watching someone you love dying before your eyes. You just want to remember them at their best. His tackles are becoming more reckless and his body language seems like he is not enjoying himself. Jay 13/03/2011 3:05pm

Scholes will be a big miss in those 2 games as we're short on creativity on centre midfield without him. Hopefully Anderson will be back soon as he was having a great season until the injury Paul'76 14/03/2011 1:20pm
Scholes indeed should retire at the end of the season as there are plenty in the middle now, and anderson has stepped up to show he's good enough to fill void. Perhaps a united treble or double will mean scholes goes on a high, the younger lads should push on to make this happen especially as van der Saar retires too. I predict scholes to be captain in fa cup final and van der Saar in last league game against blackpool! Looking forward to marseille, got me ticket! Coner 14/03/2011 3:21pm
I don't understand why ur suggesting sholes should retire? Im guessing u didn't see the through balls he was making out of no where on Saturday.... He's still a star player GGMU 15/03/2011 9:06am
Scholes is still a star but he can't play at a high standard week in week out. I'd rather see him retire at the summit. Yes, let's win the treble for them!! Hamburgerop 15/03/2011 4:24pm
I too do not understand why scholes should retire. He is still the best cm in Utd now. Do you rather prefer a 20 yr old rolls Royce or a 3 yr old junk car? Scholes can still deliver. Saf will use him for maybe 15-20 games next season and that will be good enough for us. Comments are closed. |
