Concern Over Rio, O'Shea & Rafael Injuries 17/03/2011
United have been plunged into a defensive crisis with the news that Rio Ferdinand is set to miss the remainder of the season with a calf injury. Meanwhile, John O'Shea will be absent for 5 weeks with a hamstring strain, as will Rafael Da Silva for 3 weeks with the same problem. Also, Nemanja Vidic is sidelined for Saturday's clash with Bolton... Ferdinand could miss the rest of the season with a recurring calf problem, with Sir Alex Ferguson saying he will be 'lucky' if he can get the 32-year-old England captain back before the end of the campaign. It has been confirmed that O'Shea and Rafael will be sidelined for 5 weeks and 3 weeks respectively, after the pair sustained hamstring strains in United's 2-1 win against Marseille at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Vidic will miss the visit of Bolton Wanderers to Old Trafford on Saturday, but he is expected to return following the International break and should appear away to West Ham United on April 2nd. Jonny Evans has trained all this week, and could make a return from injury at the weekend. Including Evans, Sir Alex has just 6 defenders available to him for Saturday's match at The Theatre Of Dreams. Meanwhile, Darren Fletcher remains ill with a virus, but Oliveira Anderson is nearing a comeback with the announcement that he has resumed training. We could see Owen Hargreaves back before the end of the season after he took part in training this week, as did Ji-Sung Park and Michael Owen - who are both rated fit for Saturday's kick-off with Bolton... I believe the depth of the United Squad will be enough to tide us through. FA Cup, CL and the 19th United Title! LackyMUFC 17/03/2011 2:53pm

If worst comes to worst Gary Neville is still registered but things would have to be a lot worse as SAF I'm sure will have options in my mind we haven't even thought of as with the team against Arsenal. Redmist 17/03/2011 7:55pm

Jonny Evans plays full back for Northern Ireland and can cover the centre back positions too. We'll cope as long as there's no further injuries in defence Comments are closed. |
