Manchester United 2010, Year In Review
2010: Not the best year for United, but not the worst either...

United-Latest.Com set-up shop on the 24th of December 2009, and since then - we have reported on every Manchester United match, and any story of consequence. We have witnessed two trophy lifts, but have also thrown an eye over less than tasteful revelations. Here we are now at the end of 2010, after feeding nearly 400,000 regular readers with news, opinion and the odd laugh.

First, we'll do a run-down of January to December...

January

Wayne Rooney

The New Year began with Leeds United sending The Red Devils crashing out of the FA Cup, but Sir Alex's side recovered to win a two-legged Carling Cup Semi-Final tie with Man City, ripping Arsenal to shreds in the Premier League just a few days later. January ended well for United, just one point off Chelsea in the League.

February

Munich, 1958
Remembered : Munich 1958
The second month of 2010 started well for United, with Rio Ferdinand named as England captain, while Wayne Rooney picked-up the Premier League award for January. The Munich air tragedy was remembered graciously, as was Old Trafford - turning 100 years of age. The Reds overcame AC Milan in Europe...

March

Green & Gold Campaign
'The Red Knights' bid is rejected
March brought bad news after the League Cup triumph, with Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen picking-up injuries. Glazer-Out protests got louder, as United beat Liverpool to regain top spot in the Premier League. The Reds hammered AC Milan 4-0, before Rooney returned only to suffer a severe injury against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

April

Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United - Paul Scholes '93
Scholsey keeps title hopes alive
April began horribly with United, dumped out of Europe by Bayern Munich, albeit highly controversial. The Reds' title aspirations looked over with some poor results, before Paul Scholes salvaged the ship - netting a 93rd minute winner over City at Eastlands. United went on to swipe the floor clean with awards galore heading into the summer.

May

Chelsea win the 2009/2010 Barclays Premier League
Chelsea have the edge in the title race
United pushed Chelsea to the last, but the mistakes had already been made - and The Blues ran-out deserved Premier League champions. Injury and the loss of top players were to blame, as were The Glazer Family. Nevertheless, England 'fans' prepared to exploit United stars in the 2010 World Cup at South Africa.

June

Patrice Evra
Patrice Evra: World Cup chaos
The World Cup didn't start too well for United players, with Rio Ferdinand and Luis Nani both injured in the build-up, and therefore ruled-out of the competition. Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra weren't doing to well with their national teams, and neither was Nemanja Vidic. Ji-Sung Park and Chicharito faired much better however.

July

Manchester United squad in America
United tour America
All six World Cup Reds were knocked-out, as Spain beat Holland in the final. United travelled to Canada, The US and Mexico on Pre-Season tour, with Mesut Ozil and Rafael Van Der Vaart linked with a move to Old Trafford among others. Nemanja Vidic ended speculation of a departure, signing a long-term deal.

August

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez
Chicharito impresses
In August, The Reds ended their Pre-Season tour victorious in Dublin. United hammered Chelsea to win the Community Shield, and got off to a mediocre start in the Premier League. Before the season began, Sir Alex made his last move in the transfer market - signing Portuguese youngster Bébé, while some Reserve players headed out on loan...

September

Coleen & Wayne Rooney
Rooney crisis - September
With kids going back to school, their favourite footballer had some explaining to do - as it was revealed Wayne Rooney had cheated on his wife. Sir Alex dropped the troubled striker, much to his discontent. But United managed to carry on without him - winning a vital game against Liverpool, thanks to a Dimitar Berbatov hat-trick.

October

Sir Alex and Wayne Rooney
Rooney signs long-term deal
The month started with some poor results both on the field and on the balance sheet. Wayne Rooney then expressed his desire to leave, only to sign a 5-year deal days afterwards. Chicharito came to The Reds' rescue, with Dimitar Berbatov also stepping-up his performances. The ship was steadied by Sir Alex.

November

Anders Lindegaard
Welcome: Anders Lindegaard
United started November well - however draws with Man City and Aston Villa put a dent in The Reds' title race. But Chelsea fell apart, and Dimitar Berbatov put United back on top of the League table in fashion - scoring 5 goals in one game. Meanwhile, Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard signed for the club. The Reds were then knocked-out of the Carling Cup by West Ham.

December

Rescued Chilean Miners visit Old Trafford
Chilean miners visit OT
Ah, and here we are. December started nicely, United topped Group C in the Champions League, the Chilean Miners witnessed the win over Arsenal, and Berba kept on bagging goals - becoming the League's top goalscorer. Sir Alex Ferguson became The Red Devils' longest serving manager somewhere in there too.
