Federico 'Kiko' Macheda
Federico Macheda has signed for Italian side Sampdoria on a 5 month loan. The 19-year-old striker was subject to interest from a host of clubs from both the Premier League and Serie A, but Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be confident that Sampdoria will use Kiko as a regular first teamer...

Macheda has scored 4 goals in 26 competitive appearances since joining United in 2008 from Lazio, but had this season struggled to get into the first team. With Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez ever improving and Wayne Rooney back in fray, Macheda found it hard to break into Sir Alex's starting 11s. The Italy U-21 striker had played in the Reserves for most of the season, but has now found a better home.

UC Sampdoria, who are currently 8th in Serie A, impressed Sir Alex and Kiko'a agent Marcello Bonetto with their offer for the youngster. A 5 month deal was agreed on Monday afternoon, in which the Italian side will pay Macheda's wages until early June.

Samp club president, Riccardo Garrone, was under pressure to find a new striker since Antonio Cassano moved to AC Milan just last week. Garrone told the press: "I am very happy that Macheda has chosen Sampdoria, I think it's the same for the fans. Macheda has easily filled the void left by Cassano, he will definitely do well. In these five months we will try to treat him well. With him here, the enthusiasm has increased tenfold."

Really bad news in my opinion if this happens. If he wanted to make it in the Premier League he'd be staying in England. With rumoured interest from WBA, who are a good footballing side, where he would become a key part of the team, he'd be better off going there than going to Italy. Dont see him coming back if he goes there, which is a real shame.

Exactly as Tom Parkinson says a foolish move to send him to Italy a completely different style of football to the Premiership.
He simply will not get a host of chances to score goals there and that is his trade.
I can think of several Club in the Premiership that would benifit from Macheda being loaned there, Aston Villa springs immediately to mind with a poor John Carew and Emile Heskey as there front pairing.
Is this loan with a view to selling with the magnificent progress of Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck?

SAF was also a big fan of Rossi but let him go! I'm sure the gaffer knows what's good for the lad & let's hope it is only a loan spell

Better be just a loan. But SAF knows what's best, as always. Kiko's a beast. Future Italian international star and hopefully a future Manchester United star.

Concerned he's gone to Italy.

Sir Alex won't want to sell him as he's one of the best strikers we've had in the youth/reserves ever, but in concerned he as a person may want to return to Italy for good

Think he is a good player but not good enough for united despite the FEW crucial goals he has scored in my opinion he is just one of the many players Sir Alex has brought in just to sell on for a few million prophit

It's good to go into a whole different league. He might be successful. He may lead some new techniques. Italian strikers are more successful than English strikers in recent years. So let's calm down I hope he becomes a Zola , di canio, fabrichio Ravenelli. What a dream because that means attest 15 goals a season

He shld haf stayed in the premier league like cleverly and welbeck. Italian league doesn't improve him. Although I believe he'll do very well.

Coming back or not ? - This will depend on how he will feel in that Italian club . If he will be able to mark goals, play all the matches and all the other positive things... He'll surely remain there ... All i hope is that he enjoy there , put in many goals but never ever forget Man United and SAF for what they did for him.. Love u Kiko .. Come on
