Nemanja Vidic, Darren Fletcher, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick and Kiko Macheda have all spoken about how the Wayne Rooney saga is affecting their performances on the field. Some want Rooney to stay, while others feel betrayed by his actions...
Nemanja Vidic
"There has been so much talk about Wayne Rooney and there is not much focus on the game and on the football. We tried to keep our concentration high, keep winning and make it easier for us. It's happened before with players negotiating with clubs about their contract and a lot of talk in the papers, but we are just trying to train and not speak too much with each other because we don't want to take the focus from the games on the pitch. This is the case with Wayne as well."
Darren Fletcher
"All this can be a distraction, but we can’t let it be like that. We have to focus and trust the manager. As players we have got to believe in the manager, follow his instructions on the pitch and win games. We have to focus and trust the manager. In the end it’s a team that wins leagues. It always has been. You need your great players obviously. But at the end of the day its teams that win championships and that’s what we have got to be now, we have got to become a team."
Patrice Evra
"If one player in the team does not trust the others, he should not play in the team. I hope so (that Rooney stay), but I'm not Sir Alex Ferguson. I'm only Patrice Evra. Me, I trust everyone and know we can win. The situation with Wayne Rooney is for the boss, not for the players. We are just focused on winning games and bringing back the winning mentality. The target for us is to win back the title and we are focused on that."
Michael Carrick
"You have to distance yourself from it. You have no choice. Obviously, the player and the club are huge, not just in England but around the world. It is big news. But we can only control what happens out on the pitch. That is all we can be focused on. It was a funny atmosphere (at Old Trafford). I certainly didn't see it as extra pressure."
Kiko Macheda
"There would be more chances for me if Wayne wasn't here but it is better to have him in the squad. He is a good striker. The squad is stronger with him here..."
