Van Der Vaart Keen On Old Trafford Move 20/08/2010
![]() Real Madrid midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart has said it would be very hard for him to resist a move to Manchester United. José Mourinho has brought-in a host of midfielders this summer, and Van Der Vaart's place is very much under-threat... Van Der Vaart began his career at Ajax as a teenager, and broke into the first team at just 17 years of age. It was clear the boy had talent, with him scoring 60 goals in five seasons. He was scouted by Europe's top clubs in his fourth and fifth seasons at Ajax. In 2005, Van Der Vaart chose to join German side Hamburg despite interest from Chelsea, Valencia and Real Madrid. He scored 48 goals in his three seasons in the Bundesliga. Clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Juventus became keen on signing the Dutch midfielder, but Real Madrid snapped him up for €13 Million. Van Der Vaart penned a five-year deal, but it doesn't look like he will honour his contract. After two seasons, and just 12 goals, the 27-year-old is on his way out. "I could never play for another club in Spain and the truth is that if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down - and that's Manchester United," said Van der Vaart. "They are a huge club and if the reported interest they have in me turns out to be true, then I would really have to sit down and listen. If Manchester United could offer me first-team football with the situation as it is at Madrid, it would be very hard to turn down." "Sir Alex Ferguson is a great coach and I would never think about joining a team where I didn't believe I could win things, so all of a sudden that limits your choices At Manchester United, you know success is likely and that's a big factor for me at this stage of my career," he added. "If José Mourinho makes it clear I won't play much, I see my future in English football." Commentssmok 20/08/2010 9:54am

Van Der Vaart is a good player and unlike that average ozil kid, Rafael is a world class player. Sir Alex Ferguson I bet isn't interested aldo I'm not shocked to hear Rafa say this as we are the biggest football club in the world and everyone else is below us. at 27 y/o he still haves several years in him and is a talented playmaker who can score goals, but I doubt Fergie haves the slightest interest in buying him aldo he wouldn't cost to much - not like cash is a problem. I wouldn't say no if we go for it

I don't think SAF would sign him. All this 'come and get me plea' are of no use. Now he is saying this, two days later he will sign for another club offering him more money than MANU. I dont want to name that club cause it irritates me so much. We all know SAF will stick to his own plans. But I think if we get him under 5million then we might sign him.

"if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down" Manchester United does not buy players who just a few years snubbed us for real madrid...if we do get him,i would be very dissapointed because he is after all a Real Reject!!!he had his chance a couple of years ago to come to THE BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD and he chose to go to spain,soooooooooooo......

Van Der Vaart didn't 'snub us'. We weren't interested back then, and it was Hamburg who agreed the fee anyway...

saw Fergie's press conference and he said that we was done in the market when asked, so I doubt we want Van Der Vaart just as I throught. we didn't want Silva, Di Maria or Balotelli like we didn't want Cole, Ozil, Sneijder or the rest we got linked to by the press. not really bothered that Sir Alex doesn't want Rafa as we don't really need anyone else, we have a great squad capable of winning the lot this season. Smalling, Chicharito ad Bebe are great signings and only cost us £23.4m. the future is ours.

wong, I hear where your coming from but we do have very good midfielders and can alway rely on Scholesy and whether you like it or not we do have the money and I for one am sick of people saying we dont all because we aren't wasting it. Fletcher, Park, Cleverley, Gibson, Anderson are all good in central midfield and Giggs, Obertan can play there aswell and Bebe can play there, we have 2 world class legends and several fine players who can play there. man united, you never know with Sir Alex so I agree.

I think this will be a good signing.but the odds are against it.carrick seems to have lost his touch and for scholes,he can't keep us going for very long now.vdv has got good passing and scoring ability.no doubt we have the likes of cleverly in the ranks but having vdv won't hurt us at all would it?then again,I doubt we'll sign him.

the media says we want raul meireles, rafael van der vaart says he wants to join us and sir aex ferguson says he is finished and wont buy someone else, interesting stories here and now we wait to see what manchester united and sir alex ferguson does. we dont need another signing but numbers are always good and both rafa and raul could be useful in the squad, but we dont need either of them. i for one believe we wont buy either one as we have a good squad. our team is strong enough to win the lot this year

I've heard Madrid only paid £11m for him. He has hardly improved during his time there, so they shouldn't be able to demand any more than the £11m they paid for him, I would hope.

@ agree fredster i personaly think we will sign him on transfer deadline day. united will try and get the price. surley if we even offerd 7 million on transfer deadline day they would have no choice but to expected they wont want to be wating for another year pay his wages and not eveing in the team. thats were united are clevere plus they now no he only wants to jion man united so the cant wait as long as possible i dont think wages would be a problenm with van der vart he is 27 more grown up than ozil and silva

I think he would be a quality signing. He's a quality player who's ego hasn't got the better of him. I give up trying to figure out Fergie's transfer plans though, still puzzled about Ozil.

A. Mong 21/08/2010 1:45am
His plans are to get us relegated and destroy the club. It started with letting Ronaldo and Tevez leave, then signing crap like Owen and Obertan, then failing to sign Sneijder or Ozil when they were available for peanuts, followed by wasting our transfer budget on the likes of Bebe and Smalling.

Sneijder is in the second year of a 5-year contract wit hthe European Champions. He would cost at least £30m. He too is a Real Madrid cast-off, don't forget. ;-)

AS.com, Van Der Vaart says that he will try to stay with Real, that his situation there is actually better than it was last year and he ended up staying there so he expects the same to happen this year. However, he still says that if United were interested he would talk to them. Also, his agent has said of the interest from United,'It is something I can still not talk about, many clubs are interest in Rafael, he was a finalist at the world cup."

Van Der Vaart has denied ever speaking to the english press and claims the quotes are "invented", Rafa also said he wants to stay and fight at Madrid. not really bothered as we don't really need him, Tom Cleverley is going to be a massive star and deserves his opportunity to shine and Darron Gibson is a star in the making aswell, these two will have fantastic career's at our club and only need games. Manchester United don't need Rafael Van Der Vaart. time to take back our Premier Lge title.
